I currently have a Dodge Dakota SXT and a Jeep Cherokee. I have never owned any type of rice-burner vehicle. However, I have owned other foreign vehicles (2 VW Beetles and a Triumph Spitfire). I have no heartburn with anyone who owns a Japanese car or bike but as for me, personally...colour me bigot, prejudiced, Nipponophobe or whatever but I have no plans to ever own a vehicle with the logo of a company headquartered in Japan.
AS for Toyota coming into CUP... it's inconsequential. The cars they run in Cup are merely symbols of the iron we see on the streets. They all have common templates with the main difference in "makes" being a stylized nose-piece and light and grill decals. So, they have one more that has a slightly different grill and has a Toyota logo? If someone put a green one out there and called it a John Deere it'd have the same affect.
"Oh No!," You say. The engines are different. I'll give you there are basic differences in the engines ("GM Engines" have the electronic modules in the back, "Ford Engines" have them in the front... ), but those engine aren't factory. The manufacturers have those motors sub'd out to a number of secondary engine builders using only casting molds tooled to the specs of the company.
So, I say, come on Toyota, BMW, Kia, Rolls Royce, and Tabi. Let's make a real politically correct, culturally perfect party out of NASCAR.
