The only thing about the NW is that any area where there are more places to get a cup of coffee than there are to partake of an adult beverage... That concept kind of throws me.
Atlast News both tracks(Washington State, and Staten Island were no gos). Staten Island never got any support. While the support that was in place for Washington State fizzled out.

Delaware quite a bit far from our area. I literary ment the area where the three states meet. Somewhere close to the eastern panhandle of WV.

Jerk both road courses, a pocono and a cal. Add: a Rockingham, Nashville, Kentucky and Milwaukee.

I can understand your feelings. I don't particularly like road courses but they do give the drivers and chassis men a different challenge. Besides, I wouldn't bet against the possibility that, within 5 years we'll have a third road race at Mosport, Canada.

I'd go with a single date at Pocono IF they replace it with a good track. I'd muchg rather see them give up a Charlotte or one of its clones or a Michigan or one of its clones, but... talk about wishfull thinking!! Replacing either with Kentucky, St Louis or Nashville (Nashville'd be my first choice) would be acceptable.

Milwaukee... Good area and excellent market with tons of rabid race fans, but a totally flat track? Follow the leader racing with large time chunks of abject boredom mixed with moments of sheer chaos and terror.

Dear Bob Tanner:
I like you! I like you a lot! I think the race would be a sellout if we ever get a track, but not holding my breath. You don't have coffee places where you live??? Just kidding, I'm one of the few that don't have a Starbucks punch card.
Love,

They used to run Indy cars at Portland and from what I heard they drew a pretty good crowd. Portland Speedway was a nice little track with both 1/4-mile and 1/2-mile tracks available. I heard a rumor they torn the place down? If they did, that is a shame.

IRT Starbucks... Not only is it vastly overpriced, but it tastes like swill. I've tried it several times and... I honestly believe people drink the stuff so that they can walk or sit around holding that Starbucks cup. It all says, "Look at me! I spend $3.00 on a $1.40 cup of coffee because I'm important and, gosh arooney, EVERYONE knows that the truely important people in this world just adore Starbucks!"

Have I irritated anyone yet? <g>

Re: who should get a date

Bob and Gma, I'm with you! I do believe you are right, Bob re: the coffee!! How true!
The Indy cars still come to PIR, that's Portland Int'l Raceway. They were just here last week. It's a road course. That's the only time our newspaper talks about racing and they have pages and pages of the stuff. I don't even read the Nascar stuff in the newspaper because it's wrong a lot of the time and the writers don't know what they're talking about! Gma, I liked the pix of your Dodge Magnum, it was a good lookin ride.

Someday I'm going to do a psych profile of Starbucks coffee aficianados. I'm betting I would get the same results if I tested guys who wouldn't be caught dead in a shirt without a Ralph Lauren, IZOD or an alligator on their pocket.

They still run Formula Indy at Portland? I follow that about as closely as I follow F-Boring (F1). Tell me, did they close the Portland Speedway?
The last few years I was in the Navy before I retired, I was stationed in Spain. You should try to keep up with NASCAR via the Stars & Lies...Ooops Stars & Stripes (The semi-official newspaper of overseas US military) That was a real trial!

Thank you, Fair Lady, for your kind words. When one is lucky enough to stay on this side of the dirt as long as I have, one tends to acquire a bevy of anecdotes ("stories).

Congrats on retiring from the Navy! Spain, wow, that is amazing. I've never been out of the US.
Okay, back to Nascar stuff.
Yes, the Portland Speedway is gone, I never went there. PIR hosts a race every year for Indy cars, not sure what series. But the whiney cars that sound like mosquito's. Not into that. Not even sure who won this year, can't remember his name.

Re: who should get a date

You know what gripes me. No offense to anyone. It really p^%$#@ me off that Nascar will not give a cup date to a track that would automatically sell out in Kentucky, but sure as hell will try and build new tracks elsewhere. Like I said no offense to anyone, cause I know a track in like OR, or WA would be a hit, but Kentucky has sold out every busch race it has had. I'm pretty sure Nashville has as well. California has not sold out cup races. Yet they get 2 cup races, one of which belongs at Darlington.

Get the Kentucky thing. It's so hot here, too damm hot in my house! I sold my house that I put central air in and bought this house. Crap! So hot. So, just keep that in mind when I'm talkin! I lived in CA for a few yrs right in celeb land. It's all about the celebs. And the $$. And if someone ever builds a track in the NW, it'll probably be another 1 mile or 1.5 mile to cram the fans in. Nooo, like someone else said, can't remember who, just new small tracks! No cookie cutters! No Charlotte! Yawn.
