We haven't talked about Dale Junior in a while, so...do you like him? Why or why not? What do you think his chances are this year?

Dale Junior is one one of my favorites. I like him, not because of his dad, doesn't have anything to do with his dad. He's seems like he's a down to earth person, not spoiled by fame. I started watching races the week after Dale Senior died so I have no knowledge firsthand of him.

I think he'll end up in the top 5 in points this year. Not championship material, it pains me greatly to say, maybe next year!

He does get a lot of attention but so does the 24. It's crazy to hear the crowd react when he leads or when he qualifies. That part is very cool.

Dale Jr. gets way to much un-needed attention, Jeff gets attention because he's one of the best, he leds all active drivers with wins, championships, etc., so Jeff has a good reason to get the attention, Jr. in the other hand??

I really like Jr. and always have, even before his Busch Championships. He is such a good natured guy, with a sense of humor. If you didn't know any better, you would never think he is the son of a legend, and worth mega-millions. He comes across as an everyday boy from North Carolina. There is no huge ego to feed. You never see him with some implanted babe hanging on him like Jeff Gordon or a few others do, while in public. He's got more class than that. His personal life is just that.......personal.

No matter what others think of him being overrated. He can drive with the best of them. Anyone remember during Kurt Busch's rookie year when he got into Jr. at Dover (I think?) and put him in the wall? Dale went in the garage for repairs, came back out laps later, and tied himself to the back of Kurts car for many laps without touching him. I couldnt believe the driving display. He was literally a couple of inches from Kurts bumper for what seemed like 20 laps..........and NEVER touched him. He was just letting him know he didnt appreciate being punted. Nascar finally told his team to tell him to back off. It was amazing to watch.

He is sometimes hilarious to listen to on his radio. His rookie year at Sears Point (yes it was still Sears Point!) Steve Park had crashed and ended up flying up on top of a small hill. When Jr. came by and saw the car up there, he told his crew "hey, that looks cool......like a trophy on a mantle". He is always coming up with stuff like that to say.

He is a major asset to Nascar these days, and not because of his famous father. He is is own person, and that is the reason he has the following he has. Forget championships, amount of wins, etc........people just like him and that is why he is THE MOST POPULAR DRIVER.

I guess I'm in the middle on this discussion. I do like Jr. and I think he is a better than average driver. He, as a driver, is capable of being a cup champion. Being capable of being the champ isn't the total package. I think last years effort proved that point. With the correct people in the correct places within the team there can be a world of difference. I'm not sure his rise to fame would have been quite so fast without the help of the Earnhardt name behind him. As I said previously he is a very capable driver and with the right team he may have already won a championship. That is not to say anything bad about DEI. My point is that he is championship material.

He is a very shy, country type person when it comes to the interviews. Without a script in front of him he stumbles for what to say, but that isn't a bad thing. His mind focuses on the driving aspect and what he needs to do to win .... that is a good thing.

WOW, thats amazing???
Jr. is a goo driver but besides the restrictor plates, where he has struggled rescently, I just dont se whats so great about him. He is funny and has a normal person personality but so what.

He is currently 4th in the standings this year. 4th out of 58 listed drivers. That seems to prove something at the very least. A good driver might be in the top 10-15. At a minimum he is better than average. As I said earlier it isn't just about the driver but the complete team and "in my opinion" they are there.

What is special about Jr. is he is a breath of fresh air over the other cookie cutter, sponsor spewing, puppets out there now........and the 24 is their leader. Wins and Championships are not the only thing that make a driver great. It's so easy for you to sit back spout off numbers of wins and championships.......even though your boy is one of the most boo'd in the history of Nascar.
The thread asked what we thought of Jr. Everyone except you are giving their opinions, without attacking other peoples answers.

Nevada, LOVED, loved your your comment. My thoughts exactly, exactly!!! And loved your second comment as well. I was going to put in another thread my reasons for loving Junior and decided to start a new thread. Then I didn't put what I had originally typed, but 2 things were sponsor spewing (exact words I swear!) and media robot, 2 things that he is not. He's his own person!

No doubt Dupont you are in attack mode today! Junior is overrated. I believe someday maybe not this year he will be a champion. He has a good running so far this year. He is down to earth and a all around nice guy! Right Smoke?! Fame hasn't went to his head like some drivers I won't mention Dupont might get me! Just messin Dupont!
