Well said, and eloquently put. I agree, however in the NASCAR context we're talking a sporting event which carries an entertainment label. With entertainment, if the viewers aren't entertained they watch somethinge else. I can name several examples of shows that were very successful, then the writers were changed or the current writers tried to tweak things a bit to appeal to a different demographic. When this happened the show died a quick death or they reverted back to the original plan (The wildly successful show "Frasier," comes to mind).
I contend that NASCAR should be mindful of the old adage, "You dance with the person who brung you." (I'm not sure if that is a quote from Arthur Murray or Larry the Cable Guy) Old-line fans brought NASCAR to where it is today, the "Youth Movement" may be making it money today, but I honestly believe their loyalty is a fickle as Britney Spears' sense of motherhood, and NASCAR will have to go back to its old fans again. Will we be here for them?
