Well said, and eloquently put. I agree, however in the NASCAR context we're talking a sporting event which carries an entertainment label. With entertainment, if the viewers aren't entertained they watch somethinge else. I can name several examples of shows that were very successful, then the writers were changed or the current writers tried to tweak things a bit to appeal to a different demographic. When this happened the show died a quick death or they reverted back to the original plan (The wildly successful show "Frasier," comes to mind).

I contend that NASCAR should be mindful of the old adage, "You dance with the person who brung you." (I'm not sure if that is a quote from Arthur Murray or Larry the Cable Guy) Old-line fans brought NASCAR to where it is today, the "Youth Movement" may be making it money today, but I honestly believe their loyalty is a fickle as Britney Spears' sense of motherhood, and NASCAR will have to go back to its old fans again. Will we be here for them?

Come on now Bob. I'm sure Britney is just one great Mommy ( as I write this I laugh myself into a real stupor)

Will we be there when they need us? Great question. Honestly I think we will be gone before they need us. The desire to be connected to NASCAR now days is immense and I'm sure they have enough PR and R&D people to keep the current class of NASCAR fans happy for years to come. I fear that with the corporate take over of NASCAR I will lose interest when they figure out how to get more advertising on the car and more (hard to fathom) commercials on TV. I keep saying that if it changes anymore than it already has that I will spend my Sunday afternoon doing something more gratifying like watching the grass grow. Somehow I seem to adjust even though I do it kicking and screaming all the way !

I could devote hours to the negative affect that (or is it Effect?) that Brittany has had on American pop culture. >gag>

More decals? Scarey thought.

A positive note. With Disney/ABC/ESPN/ESPN jr taking NBC's part, we'll probably have split screen commercials. That is a step in the right direction, eh?

At least at that point I can chose to watch the commercial, the race or visit the outhouse !

Bad thing if it ever goes to FOX is that we'd get no break from Jaws.

I'm young, but it still pi$$es me off the direction Nascar has gone. I've never had the Honor or pleasure of the good ol days, but wish I did.

I have some good news for you, QLTY, you CAN experience what the "Old days" were like. Find a local 1/2-mile or 1/4-mile track in your neighborhood and spend an evening watching guys who race for the enjoyment of it because they don't make much m,oney doing it. I don't know what part of KY you're in but I'd venture to say thatthere is a track within 20 miles of your house where, for less than $12, plus drinks and a hotdog, you have a great evening. I visit tracks all over the country and believe me, you'll find prople who are actually race fans. It's great!

Loy Allen didnt even fit in the Healthsource mold!

But you make a good point about the route Nascar has gone. Since 1997, Nascar has added races in places like Fontana, Vegas and Homestead and taken races from Wilkesboro and Rockingham to bring in money from a more "sophisticated" audience. They even sunk so low as to take away the Southern 500! And now the fans who loved those races are turning their back, but I can say I'll be turning my back anytime soon.
And also, it felt so good seeing Terry lead those few laps and finish where he did today.

Outstanding 1/2-mile very high-banked asphalt track. I caught a race there a couple of years ago. Good facility.

Amen my friend, Amen. It was even better when DW tried to call him and he just put his hands on his headrest.

I've said it before, and I'll continue to irritate people by repeatedly saying: We gave up perfectly good races at N. Wilks, Rockingham and Darlington for dates at New Hampshire, Las vegas and Fontana??? Geeeeeeez!
