| Re: What's Up With Yates Did Leicht's 36th place qualifying run help to cement him into one of RYR's empty seats for '07? What did his run today mean for RYR if anything? There seem to be alot of rumors about RYR's chances for '07 and even the possiblilty that they may fold up shop. Personally I think it's a sad day when owning two cup teams isn't considered a big enough footprint to be competitive but then I also think owning more than one team shouldn't be allowed. When a team like RYR starts to feel pressure to field yet another team where does that leave the single car owner/drivers... like the guys that this sport was built on. I think these huge multicar teams are bad for the sport, sure they can bring in lots more money and I guess that's about as far as Nascar ever looks. Without some actual leadership and direction from Nascar teams like RYR are going to continue to experience hardships and sponser trouble. |

| Re: What's Up With Yates Hmm... no hard feelings between Yates and the Waltrip Bro's, geez "...I've been in a two-year deal with the sponsors,'' Yates said. "I was sweating out the M&Ms contract last year and the UPS contract this year. I've never done that. "For two years I haven't been able to put my head on and participate as far as the engine program, just because I've always been sweating those deals.'' He said that will change immediately. "I feel like three years ago I went to the backseat,'' Yates said. "Then the last two years I've been in the trunk. I want to get back up front and try to steer the thing in the right direction.'' This is exactly the thing I was talking about. Team owners not being able to focus on the things that make good race teams and instead having to "sweat" contract problems. Sure sponsers are hugely important for the dollars they supply but I have to wonder why it is that Yates is having to sweat those contracts instead of building race winning engines. Yates is just the most recent casualty of the more cars, more money beast that Nascar is turning into. |

| Re: What's Up With Yates Hey what the heck does this mean? Looks like he wan'ts to drop everything into his son's lap? "Yates isn't sure he wants to focus on NASCAR full time. He hinted there may be another job outside the sport, perhaps in Washington, that would allow him to develop better engines and fuel alternatives for the entire automotive industry. "There is one other job that I would love to have other than what I do,'' he said. "I've got a great fallback. The other job, if I get it, you'll write about me a lot more than you do for this job." |

The feeling I got from the interviews was that CitiFinancial, or whatever the sponsor is, has taken a liking to Leicht and they'll move up to Cup next year with Leicht as their "Next Jeffy-Pooh." (Just what NASCAR needs, another damn Wunderkind-er!) Quote:
I just love it when I find another who has the almost identical view about NASCAR as I do! |

Yates will bounce back, I know it! They'll be just fine. Look at Childress the last few yrs. Didn't do anything, now look at them!
