| Should injured Drivers compete? CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Ricky Rudd once had to duct tape his swollen eyes open to race. Davey Allison, driving with a broken hand, had to glue Velcro onto his cast and the steering wheel so he could grip it. Dale Earnhardt raced with a broken sternum and Darrell Waltrip did it with a broken leg. Even safety-conscious Jeff Burton admits to once racing while battling a bout of vertigo. http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar/news;...v=ap&type=lgns Here is a NASCAR article I read today...and it begs the question...what is "too injured to compete"...I mean a guy suffering vertigo behind the wheel of car...is that even safe for him and others? |
