Jerra-meeeeere

I found this little ditty on jayski.com this morning:
Mayfield hoping for another chance: Give him good equipment and Jeremy Mayfield believes he can return to the form that got him into the Championship Chase in 2004 and 2005 at Gillett Evernham Motorsports. Unfortunately for Mayfield, his phone is silent. His name is not on the short list of drivers to fill slots at Stewart-Haas Racing, Penske Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing and Richard Childress Racing. It's not there even though his credentials -- five wins, 96 top-10s and two trips to the Chase -- are better than at least half the drivers in the current 43-car field. "I'm the first one to admit I've made mistakes," he said. "Whether it's the Ray's deal and I talked too much or what happened at Penske. … It was little stuff. Nothing big, but it all adds up and that's why I'm sitting here today." Mayfield doesn't know how he's going to recover from the two worst years of his career, made worse by his father's death in 2007. He hopes when everything shakes out there'll be an owner with decent equipment willing to give him a chance. If not, he might start a Craftsman Truck Series team. "I've got to make a decision somewhere down the line to do that," he said. "But once you make that move you know you probably won't be back in Cup." And Mayfield wants to be back in Cup so badly that he's willing to work without a contract and for a percentage of his winnings without a guaranteed salary. He'd love for that to be at Penske. He said leaving that organization was the worst mistake he's made, slightly ahead of losing his friendship with Evernham.(ESPN.com)(7-20-200

Morale: If you make your bed, you lie in it. Go hang out with Jeff Green, Jeremy. He likes to complain a lot about things, and knows how better to run a race team than his owner does, too.

Re: Jerra-meeeeere

Hind sight is always 20/20 but you'd think when this scenario has been lived so many times by so many others that he'd have known enough to shut his mouth way back when. I guess he was another of those who felt that "It'll never happen to me".

Gotcha !!!

I think with the way he has done, if he wants to drive, he might ought to start his own team.

Excellent suggestion. I was thinking more along the lines of having his vocal cords removed but your suggestion is probably more practical.

Maybe more practical for him Bob, but I have no problem with your solution .... although his absence from the top series has pretty much accomplished the same results.

If Jeremy really wants to race again, taking the Johnny Benson/Ted Musgrave path and going to the truck series seems most likely.

The problem he had with Penske and Evernham is still with him; he doesn't want to race. He wants to be a star. Poeple in the lower ranks of NA__AR aren't "stars." It's called ego.

I agree bob, if he wanted to "race" he would race..... I know there are plenty of truck teams that would take him on....."Randy Moss". But you are right, he wants to be a star..... and his wife didn't marry no truck driver!!

I know this, I was just statin what he should do, even though I know damn well he won't do it. What makes it even worse is he is from Kentucky.... not many in Kentucky would be this way. There are many in Kentucky you'd have to bomb out of a race vehicle to get them out, cause they would act like little five year-olds askin for "just one more ride, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease?!"

I'd give my left nut to have his talent (sans the ego of course)
