| Jimmie Johnson wins at ESPYs ![]() Johnson wins Best Driver ESPY: Jimmie Johnson, the two-time defending Sprint Cup Series champion, earned his first ESPY award on Wednesday. The driver of the #48 Chevy was honored with the Best Driver ESPY award during the 16th annual ESPN-hosted sports award show at Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. The award was determined by fans who voted online, and the competition was stiff. Johnson was competing for the fans' votes against current points leader Kyle Busch; 2007 Indianapolis 500 and IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti; 2008 Indy 500 winner Scott Dixon; Formula One standout Lewis Hamilton and four-time NHRA Top Fuel champion Tony Schumacher. The ESPY Awards will be televised at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday on ESPN.(Hendrick Motorsports PR) (7-17-200 Jayski'sŪ Silly Season Site - Sprint Cup News Page

| Re: Jimmie Johnson wins at ESPYs They were too bust voting against Kyle? Seriously, this one kind of mystifies me. Johnson has been good all season but certainly not spectacular. He's won but hasn't dominated for long periods of a race. He's the defending champ, but what has he done lately? He let the last race get away from him. He's started going to the Mikey School of Hair Care (Needs a haircut badly). He does have a very classy wife but the award doesn't go to the classier of the pair. Plus, how important to anyone except an ESPN employee is an ESPY, exactly? I figure, in order of importance, it lies somewhere between The People's Choice Awards and the Junior Miss Award (which is recognized down here in Mobile, where they hold the ceremony each year, but I doubt if 1000 people in the rest of the country have ever heard about it).

| Re: Jimmie Johnson wins at ESPYs Determined by on line vote of the "fans". Interesting. Anyone here vote? Surely did not here. And if few here did, and "reading" a seeming disagree majority here with the value/worth/relavence (I could be wrong of course), does that mean a general loss of being "in touch" exists amongst forum contributors when compared to the measured/voting/actual fan base? Or maybe a majority here (the silent) really feel this is just the most wonderful recognition (of the sport and a representative individual) that could be imagined but chose to remain silent. Actually I don't give a rats tousch. But then, based on the fan vote ----- |

| Re: Jimmie Johnson wins at ESPYs Nope. Never voted as a fan. Don't know where these figures come from. Never voted for Bill Elliott or Jr. (though I would have) for Most Popular Driver. Brings me back to TV ratings based on Nielson, nor do I know anyone who has a Nielson box. It's a crock. I KNOW how Nielson works, so don't give me a song and dance. But I know no one, no one, who has a Nielson box. Unless Big Brother is watching, I see no way how TV ratings are measured with any accuracy. Man ... I got off Topic ... sorry ...
