Question DEI and MB2?

Found this at Motorsports Lounge, Anyone here have any knowledge of this comment. I couldn't find it at the Journal.

from motorsports post:
Here is some info that was found over at Jayski's website that you might want to read

DEI and MB2? There's speculation that Teresa Earnhardt [who own's DEI, #1,#8,#15] is planning to buy MB2 Motorsports, with drivers #01-Joe Nemechek and #14-Sterling Marlin, in addition to the ongoing speculation that she may be planning to sell DEI to John Menard, a home-improvements czar who has long been involved in racing. Marlin, who drives for the Jay Frye-run MB2 Chevy operation, said he has heard the sale talk, but that he doesn't know what's going on. Ryan Pemberton, the crew chief for Nemechek, said he has talked with Frye about it, but he's not sure, either, what might be going on behind the scenes. Earnhardt doesn't grant interviews, and Frye isn't due here until today. So yesterday it was up to Richie Gilmore, the general manager at DEI, to try to explain the situation. "We're not selling out," Gilmore said. "Our plans right now are to go to a three-car operation next year with Paul Menard (John's son). John is a great sponsor for us, and we do a lot with Menard's, engines, and he's at our company a lot, and I guess people speculate when they see him around."(Winston Salem Journal)(6-3-2006)

possibility it was written by Mike Mulhern, he's not considered too relievable in some of the other forum's

I, too, saw this on Jayski this morning. I don't see any real benefit to DEI at this time, but then, I'm wrong a lot.
The one statement when gave me pause was the one about DEI "Doing a lot with Menard engines." To my knowledge DEI has had their own in-house engine program since day one. Robby Gordon was using Menardengines but I believe he went to DEI engines late last season?
I'd appreciate someone explaining to me what the Menard engine thing is all about.

MB2 Motorsports boss confirms interest in deal with NASCAR powerhouse DEI
New rules, NASCAR's 'Tomorrowland' driving talks, Frye says
By JIM UTTER
The Charlotte Observer

DOVER, Del. - MB2 Motorsports general manager and CEO Jay Frye confirmed Sunday his organization and Dale Earnhardt Inc. have been exploring several scenarios in which they could partner to make both teams more efficient.
The driving force behind the idea is the implementation of NASCAR’s “Car of Tomorrow” into the Nextel Cup Series next season, Frye said.
“We’ve been looking at the ‘Car of Tomorrow,’ what’s going to go on, how it’s going to work, that type of thing. Lots of things are going on and the sport is changing in many ways,” he said.
“How can we become more efficient? That’s really how our conversation started with (DEI). They’re building new cars, new transmissions. They have two cars, we have two cars. We’re looking at some ideas on how to make things more efficient for both of our companies.”
Frye said that could mean MB2 builds the new-designed Cup cars, while DEI focuses on the current Cup car design. It could also mean sharing of shop space and employees.
Regardless of the outcome, Frye expects a decision to be made within a month.
"This ‘Car of Tomorrow’ thing is about to start. You got get going here pretty soon. We’re probably going to need 40 of these cars,” he said. “It’s almost like a speedway program where somebody has to be in charge of that program.”
Frye backed away from published reports claiming MB2 was looking to sell to DEI, but admitted “anything is possible.”
“The intention of all this has nothing to do with (a sale), it has to do with how we can become more efficient together. And that is the question, can we?” he said.
"It’s about us growing our company. How do we survive in the world and how it’s changing? If we’re going to do this, you can’t decide to do it in December and think it will become efficient.”
DEI currently fields Chevrolets for Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Martin Truex Jr. and will added current Busch Series driver Paul Menard to its Cup lineup in 2007. MB2 fields Chevys for Sterling Marlin and Joe Nemechek. Frye said he expected to discuss the issue Sunday with Rick Hendrick, owner of Hendrick Motorsports, which provides engines for MB2's teams.

OK, I'll buy a sharing of technology. That would make sense, dsealing with this darn "NASCARmobile (aka COT) from a broad serspective. I just couldn't see the benefit of DEI taking on MB2's operation and liabilities. I just read that Nemechek is a driver Toyota is looking at and that WMI that Sterling has is only for part of the season. Plus DEI already has the Navy sponsoring one of their BGN cars; I'm not sure how that would mesh with the Army?
MB2 was getting help from Hendrick but I guess Hendrick decided to play their cards a little closer to their vest. So, Frye and MB2 are looking for another dancing partner.
I hope it works but I've yet to see one of these "sharing" operations last for an extended period. One party usually decides they want to keep secret what the partner wants to know and <poof>!
Whatever happens, it'll be interesting to watch.

Re: DEI and MB2?

I'm not sure... haven't heard anything on this. I know ol Robby Gordon switched to DEI engines..... That could force Jr to RCR and the #3 would make a return.

OK ... I'll bite. Why would Jr. leave DEI just because Robby Gordon starts using their engines ??? Technology and equipment sharing is nothing new.

Sorry LSC... I had a few last night... didn't mean for it to sound like I typed it. I read the article in a rush and mistook as DEI selling the operation. At the time what I meant(before rereading the article with a clearer head) that if DEI was sold, then JR would go ahead and leave for RCR. After further evaluation( and less alcohol) I withdraw my previous statement.

LOL.. Been there, done that, got the tee-shirt.

Maybe Dale the Junior could team up with Robby Gordon...??? That would be a match every bit as happy as Dale the Senior having Larry McReynolds as a crew chief. <shudder> Talk about a clash of monstrous egos!!

Re: DEI and MB2?

No problem 88. I thought possibly there was more to the story than what you had spoken of. I just couldn't see any correlation between the two events.

How's the head this morning ??? LOL

Re: DEI and MB2?

MB and DEI Partnership possible, buyout unlikely: MB2 Motorsports general manager Jay Frye said his two-car team is in discussions about forming a partnership with Dale Earnhardt Inc. The teams might share the burden of building cars next year when NASCAR begins phasing in the "Car of Tomorrow" while still keeping the current model for more than half the races. "There's lots of things going on, and the sport is changing in many ways," Frye said. "So how can we become more efficient? That's really how our conversation started with them. It's just ideas on how to make things more efficient for both companies. Maybe we build the Car of Tomorrow cars, or maybe combine forces, or maybe there might be nothing." Frye said DEI buying MB2 was unlikely but also said anything was possible. (USA Today)
