You've got me on that one, Charles. I don't have a clue. But that's about normal for me.

If that train was made by Bombardier then that money will probably end up in Germany !!!

Bombardier is a Quebec company that for (Provincial) political reasons is heavily subsidized by the Federal Government in order to give it an unfair bidding advantage in the International marketplace.

BTW, Most of Canadian Iconic Companies have also been sold off and their history pounded to dust. Some of the more known ones:
-The Hudson's Bay Company
-Canadian Pacific Hotels

I can't speak for the corporate tax structure north of our border but as far as the USA goes, it is no wonder our country corporations are being sold, at discount prices I might add, to foreign (Ooops! I'm sorry. I forgot. We're just one big old happy international family now, aren't we?) companies.

Our corporate tax structure here (USA) hasn't changed in the past twenty years or so. Our corporations pay 40% (35 Fed and an average of 5% state and local), plus there us a clamor in the District of Criminals -Wash. D.C. - tax tax some for "Windfall" profits! EVERY other industrialized nation has, in the past decade, cut their corporate tax by as much as 30-50%! When you keep that kind of money, you can afford to buy about any company. When you're taxed as our companies are taxed, you are almost forced to sell in order to just stay solvent.

BTW, if you've read the WSJ this was what is termed as a hostile takeover. InBev went to our SEC and worked with them to have the A-B board of directors removed so they couldn't stop the forced sale.

No worry there. SA isn't big enough to be attractive to a foreign buyer. I'm not sure what their market share is but A-B was a tick over 50% and Sam Adams is probably less than 1% (They announce they sell only a little over 300K litres each year).

Re: This Bud's for You

This is really sad.

What's more American than Budweiser and apple pie?

I live right down the street from an Anheuser-Busch plant. I took the tour years ago. I was only about 14 or 15, but it was really interesting. At the end of the tour, they gave you snacks and all the beer you could drink. Of course, I was too young for the beer.

The Clydesdales were on site that day. MAN, those are some big-a$$ beautiful creatures. I've seen them at Loudon, but you don't realize just how majestic they are until you're standing at their level.

This plant has a reputation of being the best place to work in town. In fact, there has been a waiting list for years. What a shame. I sure hope layoffs don't start. I'm not going to get into politics, I'll be banned for sure, but we all know the state of the economy and the tens of thousands of jobs that are lost each month.

I don't know why this doesn't make me mad. It makes me sad ...
