Are Engine Rule Changes Coming To Nationwide Series?

Quote:
JOLIET, Ill. -- NASCAR's decision to take 10 Nationwide Series engines to its research and development center in Concord, N.C., for evaluation isn't an unprecedented move, but it may be an indication of upcoming changes to rules governing engine packages in the series.
NASCAR.COM - Nationwide engine rule changes could be in offing - Jul 12, 2008

The list of engines they pulled this time are:

Toyota: #18 and #20 - JGR; #10 - Braun
Chevy: #88 - JR Motorsports; #11 - CJM Motorsports; #2 - RCR
Ford: #16 and #17 - Roush Fenway
Dodge: #9 - Gillett Evernham; #40 - Chip Ganassi

Re: Are Engine Rule Changes Coming To Nationwide Series?

Personally I hope not. Not in nationwide or cup.

People are complaining Toyota is domanaiting. Did people not notice Chevy win 26 out of 36 races in cup last year?

Why did people not jump on Chevy for having more power? I'm guessing it was because the best teams in NASCAR were running Chevy power. Now the best team/teams are running Toyota power.

NASCAR already mandates the 2 biggest influences of power coming out of an engine. Intake size and exhaust size. Let them work within the confines a set cubic inche and maximum venturi size in the carb (they already have this) and maximum exhaust size (they have this as well).

The rest is what racing is about. Taking the rules and making more power than the next guy.

Rusty Wallace said Toyota had 22 more hps than his teams. I think he pulled this out of his rear endm unless he's using the publiclyl viewed chassis dyno numbers at the end of select races that NASCAR does. While an indication of horsepower from the engine many other factors affect it.

I know Rusty hasn't seen a dyno sheet from a Toyota engine. Anyone who works for a Toyota team would fired in seconds for showing it. Not only that at each team (even 4 car teams) there might 3 guys who have actualy seen the complete dyno sheet run up for their engines.

They will probably introduce some rule but I don't like it. The big 3 need to step up. I mean Chevy isn't even racing it's top engine in nationwide so right there you know they are not doing all they can to produce power while Toyota is. Toyota has the newest package because they had to change from the package they ran last year which was based on the truck package. NASCAR told Toyota early last year that this year they would have to change as it was too overpowering.

If they do make a change it's just one more step NASCAR making the cars spec cars. We have spec bodies now in cup, they provide the tires, they provide the rear shocks at some tracks, if we got a near spec engines why not just to IROC style racing?

I believe that's because NASCAR won't let them. The Chevy teams are trying to get the R07 engine approved for the Nationwide series, but NASCAR won't do it.

Re: Are Engine Rule Changes Coming To Nationwide Series?

Actually Chevy doesn't want to race the RO7 in NW unless they have to. Teams are all over them to get it approved and bring it to the series.

Chevy is resisting because the new block/heads are very expensive to make and they only do so on a limited run basis and I'm guessing they already have on hand is slated to go to cup teams. They may/may not already have a large supply of blocks/heads on hand that they would have to find a use for outside of the truck series as well.
