I think you got it backwards .. all it cost Goodyear was the cost of shipping 800 tires from Pocono but they made $72,000 on tires just for the race plus another $70+K on tires for practice (the Goodyear trucks went home empty!) Their public statements were of the "We don't know what happened!" variety.

NASCAR on the other hand had to publicly apologize for the fiasco.

Goodyear was the clear winner .. they were the "victim" (according to them), but they still got paid!
