Who Else Is PUMPED For Smoke's Big Move In '09?

With Jayski and Sirius' reports that Tony is set to announce his big move next season at Indy with Office Depot as his sponsor and Ryan Newman as his teammate......Who else is pumped?

With Smoke back in a Chevrolet and moving to his own team......I now claim him as my second favorite driver again.

Newman as his teammate with Jack Daniels as his sponsor should be exciting as well.

I'm glad he's getting away from that sellout team JGR. I know with his will and determination, he won't let his race team fail ala Michael Waltrip and Robby Gordon Racing.

I know that some of you (Phils20 I'm looking directly at you.) think that Office Depot is a lame sponsor for him to have but, Home Depot isn't that much better.

So who else is excited for Smoke and the '09 season?

Another driver trying to take on ownership. Let's see how many have been sucessful in the last 20 years? How many have failed?

Say what you want about Jeff Gordon and I am no fan of his but he is the smart one...He and Evernham were both offered the similiar deal in '99. He stayed right where he was.

Why mess with this ownership thing?.... Go race for the man and spend your time off sitting on your yacht in the bahamas with European models that can't speak english!!

Smoke's isn't 100% ownership like some of the more recent ones like Waltrip and Robby Gordon.

I also think Smoke is trying to set himself up for life after racing. When he quits driving he'll be a full-time owner. Right now he's building his team up for when his driving career ends. What better way to build your team up and give it some credibility with a high profile driver like.........yourself?

This is the first time I can remember such a high profile driver branching out on his own. I think his will and determination and knowledge of all things racing will not allow this team to fail. Also, he still has some driving ability left, unlike some other drivers who started their own teams. It also helps that the engines and chassis' will be provided by Hendrick.

Correct, he won't have 100% ownership. His partner will be Gene Haas currently sitting in the federal pen for tax evasion!
I'm sure Tony can learn alot from that charactor.
First rule in business.....surround yourself with good people!!
Haas could make Bobby Ginn look like a saint!

I don't care if he drives the Depends Undergarments car, as long as it has a Bowtie on the front of it!

I'm pretty happy about it, but I do wish he would drive the Jack Daniels car and have Ryan Newman drive the Office Depot car!

Re: Who Else Is PUMPED For Smoke's Big Move In '09?

After so long it is gonna be strange to see him in something other than the orange 20. I am far from his biggest fan but I do wish him well. He is a consummate driver but I've always felt his attitude needed a little adjusting ...... like maybe with a sledge hammer. The owner/driver thing has never proven to work real well. It will be nice to see him contending again ... if it's still in him.

He is half owner of the 48. I'm sure he is more of the silent owner type, but he does have financial stake i the team.

He has a stake in the 48 team only because it kept him with Hendrick when Dodge was courting Gordon/Evernham motorsports......REMEMBER THAT?!?!?!
Trust me, Jeff has no risk of finacial lost with the 48 and he didn't open his wallet or put his A-- on the line to get the "part" ownership of the 48

I'm thinking BIG MISTAKE, Stewart has been seen as a walking Heart Attack, or so he's allowed the public to believe based on his on-air antics, having his problems compounded by XX,000 through ownership is a shortcut to one's grave.
I can just see him getting out of his car on a pit stop and doing his own tire-change, just cause he's pissed at his crew.
