NasPukes better get their act together and fix this COT and their tire mess.

This event didnt sell out... not many have this year. Sure Gas prices have an impact.... but the sport is wrecked also.

first time in a LONG time where i can say without a doubt that the crowd was better this year for the 500 than it was for the 400.

it put a smile on me face.

Re: Allstate 400 @ The Brickyard - "Live Chat"

You know Mike Helton came on during the race to "explain" the situation. I can appreciate that.

Pemberton was interviewed at a press conference after the race to "explain" the situation. I can appreciate that.

I think we're missing one thing. An apology. In the next week I would hope to see anyone who works for NASCAR to be on every TV show, radio show, etc....saying we are sorry for putting on such a sorry race.

You can blame goodyear, the racetrack or whoever...but when it comes down to it NASCAR is the one that's responsible for everything that takes place on the track.

This quote from Ryan Newman sums it up pretty well.
Quote:
"That wasn't a race [Sunday]. It's ridiculous," said Indiana native Ryan Newman. "That's a lack of preparation from NASCAR to Goodyear to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to put on a show like they did for the fans [Sunday]. It's disrespectful to the fans, and I wish that it didn't have to be that way. That's not the way NASCAR racing is supposed to be."

Re: Allstate 400 @ The Brickyard - "Live Chat"

I certainly won't try to defend NASCAR on this fiasco but without a doubt the car was part of the problem. That was no secret. What really could be done at that point ? They had said during practice that a similar situation occurred last year but that the rubber did get built up on the track. They were somewhat confident that it would happen again this year ... obviously it didn't and the results were horrific. It was as though there was 15 races with the last one being a winner take all. The racing prior to the last segment was basically attempts at staying alive. Some failed !!

There is no doubt in the minds of many that a major change needs to occur at the Brickyard. Is there a modification that can be made to the car that will eliminate this severe situation ? Can a better tire be built ? Can the track be in better shape ??

I'm sure this week will bring about many, many discussions offering as many solutions. Glad I didn't spend money on a ticket for that race. How about you Lil ???

Re: Allstate 400 @ The Brickyard - "Live Chat"

I think the "diamond-grinding" of the track surface is the culprit. Tony George must consider what he is going to do to make next year's race.... a race. The "diamond-grinding" evidently works great for the IRL cars. But, not for the NASCAR Cup cars.

NASCAR on the other hand must convince Tony George to make the track more acceptable to the Cup cars. If not, they are going to have another fiasco like yesterday.

Also, NASCAR may consider changes to the Goodyear tire. They can ask Goodyear to can bring some "hard boil" tires next year. That will force drivers to brake more and result in overall slower speeds.

All the parties involved have 12 months to figure out a solution. Fans will remember this situation when ticket renewal letters arrive.

I never thought about it because I personally think the words, "I'm sorry," are normally hollow and disingenuous.

But, in this case you are 100%. It happened under NA__AR's watch and I believe a sincere "NASCAR is sincerely sorry about the quality of the 2008Brickyard 400. Rest assured that we will do everything possible to ensure such an event will never happen again."

Good observation, bob. I never thought about a simple apology.
