I never would have believed it.

Paul Menard on the pole and Mark Martin beside him.

Paul took to the track right after Junior and took the pole position from him. Then for the longest time it looked like it was gonna be Paul and Junior until Mark sneaked in just .012 seconds behind Paul.

Congrats to Paul and Mark on an awesome effort.

Also congrats to 3 GOGHers: Joe Nemecheck, Johnny Sauter and Boris Said for topping the 185 mph mark and placing 4, 5, & 7, respectively.

Top Ford: David Ragan at 6th.
Top Toyota: Kyle Busch at 9th
Top Dodge: Patrick Carpentier at 10th (another GOGHer)

How about the 01 car, another DEI entrant with Regan Smith starting 8th.

I was shocked that Menard got the pole. Would be nice if they do good during the race.

I think the most amazing thing this weekend is Carpentier qualifying in the top 10 again this week. Now if only he could finish as well as he's been starting lately.

Maybe DEI is starting to sabatoge Truex now like they did to Jr. last year since he's not planning on staying.

Judging by the performance of all the DEI cars, I think they did similar things to all of them .. it's just Truex's had the most radical "modifications". You'd think multimillion dollar outfits like DEI would have an accurate roof template laying around somewhere....

I suspect he wasn't very pleased. But then I'm pretty sure Truex wasn't very pleased when he found out either... The only question I have is whether Truex knew before he got to the track - I suspect he knew something, but probably not any specifics ("We're trying some different 'aeros' that looked pretty good in testing.")
