| How long until we see.... How long till we see regular NASCAR track races taking on the appearence of road courses? Seriously. Before you think I'm nuts it's apparent that with the new car track posistion is more important than ever. With the recent rash of fuel mileage races (and I like a few sprinkled in every year, but it seems like 3/4 of them now are becoming one) how long till pit crews start working back from the end of the race just like a road course and trying to be the first one to pit. We saw it work out yesterday. Let's be honest here as well. The rain had NOTHING to do with who won the race yesterday. It shortened the race just a few laps and it might have had an impact over which driver on that strategy won that race, but Stewart wasn't moving up 15 posistions in as many laps. We've come to an intersection of where track posistion means so much for 1/2 the field (like the top 5 yesterday - of which none were in the top 20 in points prior to the race) and the intersection of the people from 15 on back who are points racing. Those guys back there had to pit because of chase points. So basically I'm guessing soon some crew chief of a mid points racer (someone not about to drop out of the top 35 and someone not flirting with getting in the chase) will start running races from the start as a fuel mileage/track posistion race. They'll pit early, be less concerned with performance as long as they can stay on the lead lap (probably neccistating that it happen on a none short track) or in a posistion to pick up the lucky dog, they'll pit just before the green drops to pick up extra fuel (as Micheal Waltrip did yesterday - he had 2 less laps on his tank at the end of the race yesterday than any of the other top 15). Kinda curious to see how it works out. It's getting close to a perfect storm of "non racing", points racing from some, fuel mileage/track posistion from the others with a little lucky dog thrown in just to make it possible. |

| Re: How long until we see.... I still can't figure out why KyBusch pitted at the end (before his wreck). They had just mentioned on TV that they thought he could make it to the end on fuel milage, and the rain was immenent anyway, there should have been someone on the team telling the crew that rain was only a few minutes away...

| Re: How long until we see.... I will just say that as long as Goodyear will make hard tires that are not really better when on sticker than on 20-30 laps run, race will become fuel millage. If you go back to old tires where 4 stickers gives you 1 to 2 seconds per lap, then driver will stop with 10 laps to go. Also I haven't look the number but I can of feel there is much less yellow than before, probably because you can save to cot when drifting |
