Questions New Yorkers Want To Ask Kyle

The following is a link to an article which is really pretty "Blah." However, he solitics questions from New Yorkers (I presume) to ask Kyle in an forthcoming interview (I guess he doesn't know enough to formulate his own questions? You get that from big time S&B columnists).

Ask a NASCAR Driver - Freakonomics - Opinion - New York Times Blog

What the article lacks is made up for by some of the questions. They area hoot. I wish that I could think of some of this sruff! A very small sampling is listed below:

1:03 pm Does sponsorship in the names of races, stadiums and in NASCAR’s case, divisions of the sport bother the professionals?
Would you rather race in the Eastern Conference as opposed to the Frito-Lay Conference?

1:10 pm So, in Days of Thunder, Cole Trickle insists that he switched from “open wheel” racing to join NASCAR because as long as everyone is driving the same car he con only be beaten by other drivers, not by other cars. This is the only logical way to categorize NASCAR as a sport. My question is, is NASCAR a sport?

1:16 pm Considering the limited amount of fuel in the world, how do you justify an organization such as NASCAR?

1:22 pm Often times when I get off a freeway having been traveling for a long distance, I feel with the speed decrease on residential streets that I am going very slow (slower than I am). When you drive on the freeways and around town does driving feel really slow to you because you are used to driving at higher speeds?
On another note, have you ever gotten a speeding ticket? Do you find yourself having difficulty obeying the speed limit?
Thanks.

1:54 pm Back when NASCAR actually raced “stock” cars it pushed the state of the art in domestic automotive design and made the public enthusiastic about the cars they were driving. Today the cars are all the same (except for decals), the technology is stuck in the 1950’s (push rods and carburetors) and the races seem to be manufactured soap opera entertainment. Do you feel that NASCAR should put the “stock” back in “stock car racing” where manufacturers can compete and the best cars (along with the driving public) can win?

1:59 pm Is there a situation where you can just taste the opponent’s blood on your tongue (metaphorically of course)?

Of the ones I posted, I especially like the one about how would Kyle justify NASCAR with the current "fuel shortage?" (No fuel shortage, just a shortage of oil wells and refineries in this country, but that's fodder for another forum)

I would love to hear how Shrubby answers that one. (Or Brian Z., for that matter)

The one asking if he's ever tasted an opponents blood in his mouth, metaphorically of course, (hmmm...??? interesting choice of words?). Now THERE is a person who has a lot of really fascinating things happen to him, I guarantee.

Freakonomics is a nationally read blog, that used to be an independent website, but is now hosted by the NY Times.

So it's anyone ask a question, not just new yorkers.

That said, I'm definitely looking forward to reading his answers.

Re: Questions New Yorkers Want To Ask Kyle

My daughter is one of salysenior's "mentally imbalanced" NYC residents. Since I was on the phone with her as I was reading this thread, I asked her what she would ask Kyle Busch, just for fun. Her question, "Who the heck is Kyle Busch?" She asked her co-workers if anyone knew who Kyle Busch was. "He's George W's brother." "He's George W's son." "He's George W's father." (That one's my personal favorite.) "He owns a beer company." "Didn't he just win the Indianapolis 500 in Daytona?" (I'm not kidding, but that guy was the closest to being right.) Bottom line, nobody knew, and when I told her he was a NASCAR driver, which she repeated to everyone, somebody yelled out "NASCAR! OMG, I suppose your mom's into cow tipping, too!" And that is what NYC thinks about Kyle Busch and/or NASCAR. In my daughter's defense, she knew he wasn't a relative of "W", but was leaning towards owning a beer company. And I thought I had done such a good job raising her. She's been "citified', I fear.

If you build it, they will come. From the speculations of many it would seem like this is a totally untapped resource. New Yorkers may not know anything about that redneck NASCAR thing yet but they can be taught ... especially if they have wallets.
