| The Coming TV Storm John Daley, of the Daley Planet blog writes the following: Now in the second year of the current NASCAR TV contract, the apparent disconnect between the ESPN-produced NASCAR events and the ABC local TV stations could not be greater. Where NASCAR is concerned, this situation is poised to throw a wrench into what is shaping-up as a critical season for the sport. The Daly Planet: ABC's West Coast TV Mess: NASCAR vs. Kid's Shows Actually, reading between the lines he makes a great case for "Sliced Bread" Lugano to get to Cup ASAP. Maybe ABC'd run the races, billing them as a "Kid's Show?"

| Re: The Coming TV Storm I want my NASCAR and I want it now! That what I thought when I read John Daly's piece. One thing that struck me was his statement that: "Many ABC affiliates decided their own local station agenda was bigger than that of either NASCAR or the ABC Television Network."Give that local ABC affiliate credit for looking out for local and community programing. Sure, there are a lot of NASCAR fans in the Seattle area. But the marjarity of the population in that area are NASCAR fans. Even in Mooresville, NC (the capital of NASCAR teams) the marjarity of the population does not watch NASCAR on TV. I commend the local ABC affiliate for their concern for the "little" people of their area. |

| Re: The Coming TV Storm Shades of Raiders / Jets. Heidi-gate. Many have seen the above as some sort of (positive) turning point for the NFL relative to telecast priority. Perhaps NASCAR has just experienced their historic turning point. If it too can be seen as a similar turning point ---- that can't be all Baaaa --d. Hmm, no matter how hard I ("we" for those needing it) try lately, it always spells out that way. Wonder if something Baaaaa---d is going on? Oh well, there's likely a simple explanation just over the horizon. |

I agree with you in that ABC did exhibit this by preempting the race. But it sure irritates a lot of NASCAR fans. |

| Re: The Coming TV Storm Ok, I'm a Seattle fan. Now... Given this is only a nationwide race, I can't get too fired up about it. Should I take one for the board and call the station to complain this morning? |

| Re: The Coming TV Storm And I thought the TNT transmission was a mess ... 2 questions: Why did NASCAR messed things up with spreading themselves thin with so many broadcasting companies and their affiliates ?! and Why didn't they shorten the length of the races (with some exceptions) ?! |

| Re: The Coming TV Storm Why not? But then that call and $4.95 will get you a latté in any of your Fivebucks cafes. |

| Re: The Coming TV Storm So they killed 1/2 hour of NASCAR pre-race programming to show an episode of "The Suite Life of Zack and Cody", basically a Disney-channel show. Not local-produced content whatsoever. But, they didn't miss a single lap of actual racing, so no big deal, right? P.S. The complaint line is closed on Saturdays, apparently.

Add to that the "Personalities they stack the shows with... The Cackling Wallace Brother, Mr. Excitement, Tommy Tattoo, Hermie "The Body Slammer" Sadler. I'm waiting for them to bring on Oprah or Barbara Walters to comment on NA__AR's social injustice. Ugh! |
