| Mears officially out at Hendricks Casey Mears is officially out at Hendrick Motor Sports, effective at the end of the 2008 season. “It’s frustrating to go through these scenarios but, beyond this right here, we’re still at the race track,” Mears told reporters Friday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. “We’re trying to make the best race car we possibly can. That team’s got a lot of pride. They want to run well. I want to run well. We’re just going to continue to work hard... There are no hard feelings anywhere. And now we’ve just got to focus and buckle down and do our jobs like we know how.” Mears out of Hendrick ride at end of season. - NASCAR - Yahoo! Sports

| Re: Mears officially out at Hendricks If nothing else this gives HMS 8 months to find a driver. I'm sure they have a few already to interview. I honestly cannot see Mark Martin in that car. I think HMS can do better. Mark, at best, is a short term solution and his chances are minimal .... and yes I will eat crow if necessary. |

Vickers chose to leave on his own accord after he was ostracized for crashing Johnson at Talladega. As an outsider, he took the Red Bull offer and then The Felon made sure he knew he wasn't wanted around when they cut him out of team meetings. Kyle's immature mouth and attitude didn't fit into HMS' "button down" image. When Junior came available, it was a trade off. To be honest, if I were The Felon, and having the goals he does, I probably would have done the same thing. There are other ways to make a profit besides winning races. Mears...? First of all Casey just hasn't performed. Add to this the kid is so low key I kind of wonder if he actually has a personality. I get the impression that if he'd get mad and yell, he'd scream in a monotone. He's a good driver but not one many people remember as being in the race when they reflect on the race later on. He doesn't bring a lot of negative press and media attention, but he doesn't bring a lot of positive, either (one of those ways to make money even in you don't win). With some of the flashier drivers coming available, I think I'd trade Casey, too. (My personal bet is for Truex, but I'm probably wrong) Casey is like David Greene. He'd make some team a great test driver.

| Re: Mears officially out at Hendricks How about this; Tony Stewart gets Pi*** O** at his Lawyers making the team purchase deal, and decides to go with Hendrick and his good time buddies. Oh and before I forget... Chevrolet. |

I couldn't see Tony fitting in with that wine and cheese party they have over there! |

I agree 100% with you about Casey Mears. I really think he needs his uncle to tighen him up with Peneske and go IRL... The IRL would love him and it would make a great story having a mears/peneske team again. BUT...BUT...BUT Mr. Hendricks under the advice of Jeff and Jimmy picked Casey Mears to drive for him which is what the guy is doing. Let the guy finish out his contract and then realize you made a bad decission and let Casey save face and move on..... After his contract is ober!! I mean isn't that what a stand up guy would do?? |

Besides from his radio show I think Tony's brew of preference is either PBR or Schlitz (PBR I can handle but Schlitz... ugh! Tastes too much like Olympia). I'm not sure his constitution could handle the boutique micro-brewery stuff. It'd be something to see. |

I think Jamie Mcmurry would be a good fit over there.... he always reminded me of soft too.... Not that there is anything wrong with that but I could see him hanging out on the yacht with some wine wearing an ascot! |

| Re: Mears officially out at Hendricks Come to think about it, Jamie does seem to me to have a bit of the new wave Scott Speed-type metro-sexual about him. Faux-Mohawk hairstyle, manicures, designer jeans... Yeah, he'd probably be an excellent fit, except for the fact I heard that he's shacking with his main squeeze. Rick'd probably demand they marry, so as not to taint his "blemish-free" (?) (that was a joke, y'all) image. (Which just might be one of the really worthwhile decrees Rick might make in this decade) |

I wonder if Jeff and Jimmy are mad because they had to get married but Jr, didn't?!?! |

| Re: Mears officially out at Hendricks Monte Dutton writes an interesting piece on this. In part it reads: This story has produced a sinking feeling for months. Mears, a member of a distinguished racing family, has brought up the rear in the Hendrick stable since he got there. He salvaged his first season with a victory in one of the sport's significant races, the 2007 Coca-Cola 600 at Lowe's Motor Speedway, and hopes were high this year that he could make the Chase. It's not happening, and, as a result, Mears and Hendrick aren't, either. He may even be farmed out before the end of the year, but nowhere in NASCAR are appearances more important than at Hendrick Motorsports, where no one is ever fired. There sure are a lot of ways parted, though. It's fortunate, of course, for Hendrick, the highly successful businessman with the checkered past, that he's "parting ways" this time with Mears, whose ability may be a matter of opinion but whose level of class isn't. "Rick and I sat down and had a talk," said Mears. Hmm. That sounds familiar. For the whole enchillada go to: Thank you sir, may I have another? | NASCAR This Week |
