My Prediction For The Future Of Women In NASCAR

I read an AP article recently which painted NASCAR as behind the times because there's no prominent women in the sport right now with the exception of Chrissy Wallace.

Two of the other forms of racing (drag-racing and open-wheel) both have prominent women drivers. Danica Patrick, Melanie Troxel, and of course Ashley Force.

As the father of two daughters myself, I'd really like to see a woman step up and become popular in NASCAR.

So, my prediction is that in 18-20 years Jeff Gordon's daughter will become the first woman driver to be up there with the NASCAR greats.

Though I do hope I'm wrong and it doesn't take that long....like I said I have two daughters myself so I have no problems rooting for a woman to do well in my beloved sport.

Also, hopefully my daughters are NASCAR fans when they get older and I'd like for there to be women drivers for them to look up to.

Re: My Prediction For The Future Of Women In NASCAR

There haven't been any women able to step up and race in NA$CAR with exception of one.
Danica Patrick has one win and it was when the bigger competitors were not at the track. Ashley Force is very talented though. I guess NA$CAR is just a different animal. I wouldn't mind if a woman was able to step in one of the cars and show the boys how to do it. It may happen if the Wallace girl steps up. I see Jeff Gordon's Daughter bein a model, not a racer, but I have been wrong before.

well maybe when they install a cigarette lighter to plug in the curling iron.

No, seriously my reasoning is that this car is a very physical car to drive by all accounts.....way..way different from Danica's ride.

Re: My Prediction For The Future Of Women In NASCAR

A Group B rally car would make the COT look like 5 year old's toy, and that didn't stop Michelle Mouton from driving it and winning in it.

For me what interests me is that if <insert minority absent/rare> comes to <insert sport/motorsport here> it must be on merit not positive discrimination of/or sponsorship.

In other words, you don't care if a woman comes in as long as it's cause she can race and not just look pretty and draw sponsors eyes... correct?

I know that's what I want to see.

I think physically there are few that can or want to but somewhere out there she is waiting to make her mark in NASCAR. We just don't know exactly who she is just yet. I'm convinced that there is a female out there that can out drive Derek Cope !!

I'm in total agreement with that. If you can race then you are welcome but don't use the "female" minority card to get a ride. There are enough men out there now that do not have my respect as a driver. Start making this an equal opportunity deal and it'll hurt NASCAR.

If everything went right in the Genetics.... Ella Sophia might just be Nascar's ticket to a woman CHAMPION and many time winner! i'm hoping she picks Jeff's path, and not the Path of a model.

Re: My Prediction For The Future Of Women In NASCAR

I will never use the word minority anymore when refering to race. I think the different races in this country have more than caught up to the caucasains.

I don't understand with all this hoopla in getting a female in Nascar. I'm not against it. If there is a female out their that can race, then so be it come on. My point is where is everyone making the same claims for the NFL, MLB, and NHL? I will give the NBA and PGA a pass because atleast they have a female league.

I would love to see Nascar create a female league a racing league devoted only to females. Now would I keep them out of Cup? No, it their was any female driver that was good enough to be in cup then so be it. I would still love to see a series devoted only to females though.

Re: My Prediction For The Future Of Women In NASCAR

NHL did have a female goaltender a while ago, by the way. And there is a professional fast-pitch softball league AND a women's professional football league. These things are out there... not all of them get the press of Danica, the LPGA or the WNBA, but they are out there.
