SMI board officially tabs Smith as president, CEO

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Marcus Smith, son of billionaire track owner Bruton Smith, was selected as Humpy Wheeler's successor Wednesday at Lowe's Motor Speedway and Speedway Motorsports Inc.
Marcus Smith takes over as president and CEO of SMI, which owns seven tracks currently on NASCAR's Cup schedule, and president and general manager of Lowe's Motor Speedway.
He replaces Wheeler, who stepped down after 33 years of running LMS last week. Bruton Smith endorsed his 35-year-old son for the jobs, but SMI's board of directors did not make it official until Wednesday afternoon.

Guess we'll get to see if Marcus is a Brian or a Humpy...

I'm betting the former .. but I've been wrong before.

I'm with you, your Duckiness, but...
On the positive side:
  1. He's Bruton's kid and Bruton has chutzpah, and
  1. Bruton has had his boy working at the speedway since he was small, doing everything from cutting grass and picking up cigarette butts to taking tickets and boiling hot dogs.
Such things built character than Brian doesn't have.

We can hope but Hump's shoes are about a size 55DDD. I couldn't fill them.

You're right. Bruton doesn't give anybody anything .. he makes them work for it. So there's hope Marcus will do well.

Still, Humpy is an impossible (maybe too strong a word, but it'll do until proved wrong) act to follow.

Well seeing it was the Board that appointed him and not Bruton himself the chance the kid is legit are greater. Yes the board could be influenced by Bruton, more than likely they are more influenced by the company. They want the company to do good. I don't think they would have appointed Marcus if they didn't think he could do good.

First off I have no personal idea just how good Marcus is but .....Daddy owns the company, the "Board" is paid by the company that Daddy owns. Yes the board could most definitely be influenced by Daddy.
