The NASCAR Triple Crown

Big Brown won the Preakness yesterday making him one win at the Belmont away from winning the Triple Crown. So that leads me to ask: what is the NASCAR Triple Crown.

Here is what I would think it would be: The Daytona 500, The Brickyard 400, and the points title.

That would make Jimmie Johnson the last winner back in 2006.

Thoughts, ideas?

Re: The NASCAR Triple Crown

The Points Title is a by-product of the whole season, so I wouldn't make it a 3rd "race".

My picks would be your 2 and ....

1- Daytona 500
2- Brickyard 400
3- Coca-Cola 600

Re: The NASCAR Triple Crown

Since there are road courses on the circuit, I think you'd need to have one of them in the crown line up.

Re: The NASCAR Triple Crown

I'll agree that those races are some of the biggest "MEDIA" races of the season but .... Bristol is always a big hit with the fans. I realize that some may not agree now that the COT is the car to race but I find far fewer cautions and more racing now. I vote that Bristol be on the list.

I agree with the Bristol choice as long as it's the fall Bristol, it just seems to be more exciting than the spring. What about Dega??????

I've always thought it pretty ridiculous that there is no road course race in the Chase. Just doesn't make sense.

DEGA is in a class all by itself because it's in the chase. It is a wildcard track in a sense.

Re: The NASCAR Triple Crown

USAC refers to their Triple Crown as the winner of the Midget Series, Sprint Car Series and the Silver Crown championships all in the same year. Tony Stewart and JJ Yeley are the only winners of the USAC Triple Crown.

The NASCAR Triple Crown could be the winner of the Craftsman Truck Series, Nationwide Series and the Sprint Cup championship. It looks like Kyle Busch would have a chance to possibly accomplish that feat this year.

That doesn't really work though, considering that Busch would be the only one in the running since most drivers only drive the top series. I agree with others that the triple crown would be

1. Daytona 500
2. Brickyard 400
3. Coca Cola 600

dega and bristol should definitely be considered as well.

Re: The NASCAR Triple Crown

There used to be a grand slam called the "Winston Million", so that was sorta the same kind of deal.

1. Daytona 500 - @ Daytona obviously
2. Winston 500- @ Talladega
3. Coca-Cola 600- @ Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord
4. Southern 500- @ Darlington

Winston Million - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I will go for something like that. Except, this is the old format of tracks. Texas, California and Las Vegas would get mad. Maybe we could call the Triple Crown the three races at Lowe's Motor Speedway:
  1. NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race @ Lowe's
  2. Coca-Cola 600 @ Lowe's
  3. Bank of America 500 @ Lowe's
Just get Humpy Wheeler to fork over some cash and he'll promote it.
