FOX has done something right

I have a bit of heartburn about the way all the networks cover NA__AR racing. However, when they do something right I like to acknowledge it, too.

The real time changing of the position script crawl across the top of the screen is outstanding! I don';t know who came up with this idea but it is great. Kudos to FOX. Good job!

Agreed. I noticed that over the race as well!

Re: FOX has done something right

they probably read my "Observations" post several races back where I was complaining about it being constantly wrong and several laps behind. I remember making a point that "all the other networks seem to be able to do real-time updates" and wondered aloud why Fox couldn't. This race I saw what took them so long .. they had to animate it!!!

Too often the focus of the network analysis is on the commentary, which is irrelevant, as far as I'm concerned. But when they get something right (the aforementioned scroll) I think they should be noticed.

I'm with you there. I only listen to the commentary for the trivia since what they're talking about seldom is being shown on the screen. And seeing the live update ticker brought a satisfied smile to my face....

Re: FOX has done something right

My only question is how good it will look during the restrictor plate races? Me thinks all of that shifting in the draft is gonna be awfully confusing at times.

I would suspect that FOX has developed some software that works in conjunction with the devices in each car that NASCAR uses to determine where each car is on the track in the event of the yellow flag. If you recall when there is a yellow flag they talk about the scoring loops. If FOX is tied into that system somehow then it is all done electronically and automatically. No problem. The system should be able to keep up with the input.

Again this is just a SWAG !

Yeah, I get how it works, I'm just saying that watching the scoring loop is going to be hard since it will ALWAYS be shifting.

You could be right. I don't watch that to often. I'll do an occasional look-see at it just to see where driver "X" is at any given time.

Re: FOX has done something right

2 quick things here

1. at least 1/2 the time it seems to find a way to piss me off .... whenever i am wondering where my driver is .. just before he comes up in the scroll .. either the scroll will start over with the leader .. or they will cut away to the stupid cut away car and the scroll stops all together

2. i would like to make the suggestion now .. so if it happens i can get some credit .. seems i remember watching some games on ESPN and they have their scroll of game scores and news .... sometimes their scroll continues while they cut to commercial ... seems FOX could keep this scroll going during commercials ... i know it would be greatly appreciated ..... and i bet the advertisers would be ok with it .. more people would watch the commercials to see the scroll

I'm actually amazed at how good of an idea that is, I know I'd stay on the channel to see the scroll.
