Darlington not kind despite newer, faster race surface

DARLINGTON, S.C. -- The Lady in Black received a new facelift during the winter but it did nothing to improve her personality. If anything, Darlington Raceway is proving to be meaner and nastier than ever.
And according to pole-sitter Greg Biffle, the winner of Saturday night's Dodge Challenger 500 better be courteous and careful in order to court her favor.
"Certainly everybody's talked about the track [being] really fast," Biffle said. "It's the same old Darlington. It will bite you just the second you let your guard down and even faster now with the speeds being two seconds a lap faster than we're normally going.

41 of the 44 cars that posted speeds broke the track record and that includes two cars that didn't make the race. DAMN!

'Twill be fun to see how the "Lady" treats the "Boys" this year... They're coming to her house and I suspect they'd better be on their best behavior. She's known leave her "marks" on those who don't pay her proper respect.

And I've never known the Lady to play favorites: just look at what happened to JJ.

Re: Darlington not kind despite newer, faster race surface

I stand by my prediction of a week ago... The race will be a follow-the-leader with several wrecks when people try to jump out of line to go under another car.

I'm not expecting much resembling a race tonight. I look for it to more resemble a high speed Bristol race, before they turned Bristol into a miniature Las Vegas.
