Mainly just Jap stuff here. Obviously we have the GM Holden and the Ford Falcon (both V8 Supercars) and yes we drive on the otherside...of the road and the car...........although my work vehicle is left hand drive......I'll try to find a pic

Clutch, I think (boy those 2 words have come up a lot in this thread) that there's a group of folks who are "purists" and believe NASCAR should only be populated by brands from the Big Three. No amount of "reasoning" will change their mind. Not only that, but they also think the race cars should resemble "Stock" cars, i.e., something they can buy at the local dealer.

Then there's the group who are looking for something different. Many of them were early fans of the COT as well as Toyota. And they would welcome more "fresh blood" into the Cup and Cup Lite ranks. This group also doesn't have a "loyalty" to a particular team/owner/driver: They're continually jumping on and off bandwagons.

Finally there's a group that don't care who the manufacturer is 'cause all the cars look alike anyway and you can't buy anything that even remotely resembles what's on the track at a dealer. These folks just want to see competitive racing and have resigned themselves to the fact that NASCAR has moved into the area formerly reserved for sprints and modifieds and the like: they don't look like anything on the street, but they're race cars with fenders! These people tend to be more driver/owner oriented.

I think I'm somewhere between the last two, but probably closer to the 3rd group.

That's also why I tend to be unimpressed with the retro paint schemes: the current cars have nowhere near the same size, configuration, nor lines as those whose scheme is being copied. As far as I'm concerned they might as well be "wraping" a city bus or an Indy Car. Here's a "side by side" pic that shows what I'm talking about:

Re: Do You Root For/Against A Team Based On Car Make?

I don't know where I'd fit in Duck.

I don't think that is should be restricted to the american big but I do belive that in a series that calls itself Stock its "race cars should resemble "Stock" cars, i.e., something they can buy at the local dealer".

Then there's this "care who the manufacturer is 'cause all the cars look alike anyway and you can't buy anything that even remotely resembles what's on the track at a dealer".
True, but I have an issue with spec cars/series and I'm not resigned. I still think there are True Belivers who might save the racing world from the spec.
If it would be after me I want nothing short of a successfull crusade against spec cars and a return to diversity (yes I know about safety and cost regulations, but when a governing/sanctioning body dictates look alike spec cars/bodies/chassis it's gone too far).

I explained that in the part of my post you didn't quote.

My Father retired from GM, so a lot of what we had as a family when I was young was with the generals help. Braces, food, things around the house. Either way, that was where my Dad was employed, and I still get the employee discount on the cars.

I don't like or root for any make other than GM cars. Since Labonte move to Dodge, it's a struggle to root for him, and when he retires, then my last confession will be done!

Yeah, a total of 8K in discounts is the only reason I bought the truck I hve now! 3 K in rabates, and just a touch short of 5K off from the General!

It makes my buying choices easier.

But I have to say if it wasn't for the discount, I would look elsewwhere for cars. I love my truck, but there isn't much in GM's fleet, other than the CTS, that really impresses me!

I would love to have an Acura in my driveway.

I could live with this!
