Re: Dale Jr. going retro with No. 88 Chevy

I like Kvapil's #28 Lafayette Ford much, much, much, much better.

When I saw Jr.'s car I immediately remembered how dispicable I thought DW was when he drove the car. It was a flashback I could have easily have done without.

I've been looking for those stats, Duck. Where did you find it. Google failed me on this one. The only two references I've heard was a mention in the WSJ and a statement by Mark Dyer about how NASCAR Authentics sales are up this year and he attributed most of it to (irony warning!) Junior and Kyle Busch.

Please post a link, it it wouldn't be too much trouble.

Yep it's all my fault, shame on me.LOL. Seriously though I did use to put out some serious money for my Nascar stuff. But lately I just haven't wanted any of it. I bought one new car to sit beside his old one. Other than that nothing of his has caught my fancy. Could it be that I know by buying his stuff I'm buying HMS stuff? Could be.

That is a good looking car. It sort of reminds me of one of the 43 cars the Bobby Hamilton drove for the King during the 25 years of STP.

Plain Petty Blue, with the 358CI on the hood! That was the best of those five cars they drove that year!

I wish the Pettys could find a way to run one just Solid Blue again, maybe for the Winston, or whatever they call that race these days!

Huh? The Lafayette Ford is blue??!!

I haven't seen it yet but I naturally assumed (Never assume; it makes an ass out of u and me) that it was a tribute car to the Ford Freddy Lorenzen ran in the early 60's. It was solid white with a slight metal flake mixed in, with baby blue lettering on the rear quarter panel.

I don't remember him running a solid blue Ford.

Nope.

maybe I didn't type that right. The 28 is indeed a white throwback.

Here is the 28 for this week!

What I meant to say was that I found it very much like a car the Pettys ran in 1993.

That #43 car was just a plain Petty blue!

I remember that one (both the original and the tribute car). It painted like his 1970 Road Runner was.

I thought the most authentic tribute paint job tonite was the #21 Wood Brothers car. That one brought back some good memories.

Re: Dale Jr. going retro with No. 88 Chevy

Special scheme for Labonte in #43 at Chicago: #43-Bobby Labonte will drive a special paint scheme marking the 50th Anniversary of the King's first NASCAR race. Labonte is scheduled to drive the car on July 12, 2008 at the LifeLock.com 400 in Chicagoland

Bobby's going retro too. Saw the image on Jayski's, it's pretty sharp looking.

It's always good to see those colors back on the 21.

They find a way to do that every year it seems, and it's great that they do it!

Re: Dale Jr. going retro with No. 88 Chevy

After seeing the Mountain Dew car race Saturday night, I think Junior needs to keep that full time and get rid of the Amp scheme. Love that old school look allot better.

Minor correction (playing Korrecty Korrecterson, here). It marks his first NASCAR Cup, nee Grand national start. (Toronto Ontario, 7/18/5, in the #142 Petty Olds. His first NASCAR start was the week before at Columbia in a white and red '57 Ford convertible in a NASCAR Convertible Series race.

For the record Richard ended up eating the wall after he father, Lee, knocked him into it. A quote from the paper reporting the race:
"This was my first Grand National," the younger Petty said. "Cotton Owens was leading Daddy. They came up behind me and I moved over to let them pass."
"Cotton went by," Petty continued, "but Daddy bumped me in the rear and my car went right into the wall."

I wonder if any of the fans that day threw beer cans and wanted Lee to be buried chin deep in an ant hill, ala Kyle Busch?

I agree 100%

Although I didn't get to see the actual race, it did look good in qualifying.
