Funny How No One Has Mentioned...

David Ragan

Last year the kid was "A dart without feathers." This year he's been running consistently toward, but not at, the front. He's been running at the end at all but Daytona. With the exception of the first two races he's had solid top 20's in every race.

True, these aren't the stats stardom is made of but for a kid who just a year ago was considered a wreck waiting to happen, I think it kind of impressive.

He's in 14th place and only 56 points away from the Playoffs. Ironically he's ahead of two form champions, Kurt Busch and his team mate, Matt Kenseth.

In light of all the crap which went down this week past I think David Ragan's unexpected performance is a bright spot in an otherwise murky sky.

Keep it up, David. If you keep it up you'll have a lot of people scratching their heads thinking, "Where the Hell did this guy come from?"

Re: Funny How No One Has Mentioned...

I've been really surprised at the way he has run this year. Last year I called him 2 wreck minimum, cause it seemed he was involved in at least 2 wrecks almost every race. This year I've just been calling him by his name. He may not have the stats of the bigger stars, yet, but at the rate he keeps improving he'll get there.

Glad you brought this up Bob. I think we have a possible slow but risin star. Hopefully Roush will hang with him and let him blossom.

When he ran into Matt Kenseth earlier this season (Daytona?) I thought to myself 'ah great, picking up where we left off'. But yeah, he's surprised me after that.

Another one to keep an eye on is Brad Keselowski. He may be Nationwide for now, but you never know when he'll end up in cup.

I like Keselowski, doing a great job for the Jr. Motorsports in the Nationwide Series, and he is in a Cup car testing for Haas this week.

It was a matter of survival, Dustin. I had had it up to my bloodshot eyeballs with the incessant and virtually non-stop Junior v. Kyle blah-blah, blah from all the driver fans. I thought a thread about David would be preferable to a thread about the pro's and con's of the Martinsville hot dogs.

It's troubling me that AAA is leaving Ragan after this season. I hope Roush keeps him. he's had to work hard to get to where he is, not to mention stepping into Mark Martin's seat was a tough act to follow.

I hope Ragan does well.

Re: Funny How No One Has Mentioned...

I know Roush supposedly has to get rid of a team soon. But I hope he keeps this kid too. He's going to be very good in a few more years. If I had to choose between him and Jamie, it'd be bye bye Jamie.

Re: Funny How No One Has Mentioned...

How about that David Ragan? A 5th place!!! (And Fox didn't even think he merited a post-race interview? They got Flipper, Jeffie-Pooh and Junior but David was nowhere to be seen?)

I think the kid drove a very smart race. I think he might be in the Playoff List now, but I haven't figured the points yet.

Re: Funny How No One Has Mentioned...

He is in the top 12 now and they did interview him. I think he did a great job tonight and was glad to see it.

Re: Funny How No One Has Mentioned...

Yes he did. Ragan rana very good race to finish like he did.

Don't forget about Kvapil, the boy finished 8th. the 28 is definitely the better performer of the Yates cars. Brad Parrott and Kvapil are a hell of a team.

It's too late this season for a full time sponsorship but I bet the #28 won't have a problem getting a sponsor next season if they continue.

It kind of proves what I have always maintained, Brad Parrott is probably one of the best and the most under-rated crew chiefs in the garage. The ONLY time Dale Jarrett had any real success was when Brad was on top of his box.

It also was Brad who started the improvement of the Petty's and when he left to return to Yates that progress sputtered.

Besides that I liked the paint job on the #28 last night. I wish I could have seen it to see it they just used gloss white or if they added the metal flake as they did in the 60's.

I have always maintained that Robert made a stupid decision when he took Brad of DJ's box. Everythin went to hell when Brad got off that box.

As far as the paint I don't know. I would assume they used gloss white... it still looked good though.

I believe the problem was between D.J. and Todd.

They had some kind of falling out, I don't think it was ever said what the problem was, but it was enough to get them on opposite sides of things.

I didn't even realize that you said Brad!!
