Hey, everyone,
TNGal has been suggesting a chat room. So I need one right now. I've had a really bad 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to let up. So, if it's OK, Ross, I need some support. My Gma is nearing the end of her days. They said days or weeks one week ago and she's still hanging on. She's so special.

My vehicle, I just learned tonite is nearing the end of its days as well. It's an 89 Jimmy S15 that was totally stock when I bought it. I lowered it 4", wheels and tires, 60's in the front, 50's in the back. Too much more to list what I've done to it. Dark gray, kick ass lookin if I say so myself. Paint is still semi-ok. I'm not ready to sell it yet. Do I replace the engine. I've put major bux into it lately. I don't know. My vehicles are my babies. I'm depressed. And the 48 will not win this weekend.

wow, sorry to hear, Diane. I was MUCH closer to my wife's grandmother than either of mine (they both died when I was pretty young and lived far away). Sandra's grandmother was bedridden for several years and had really given up the last couple of years. I miss her very much & feel my kids were short changed by never getting to meet her. So I know how special a grandmother can be

Give me a few minute and I'll post an update on when I looked into a chat function.

There are a few chat options for the forum software that I've looked into recently. Unfortunately, all of them have some issues. The best of the chat options is only designed for an older version of our forum software and I see that somebody just released an unsupported hack that is supposed to work on the current version of the forum software (what we have).

I'm not adventurous enough to install a modification that's brand new, unsupported and a hack. Too much chance of a problem like crashing the board. I'll keep my eye on it to see what others say about it.

The other issue is how adding chat will affect the growth of our young community. When you start a new thread or reply to an existing thread, you're actually helping us get new members/visitors. The search engines like Google & Yahoo pick up the threads and serve them up when somebody searches for words & phrases in the titles. The more threads & posts that we have, the more new visitors that we get.

Chat and private messages don't help in that regard since the search engines don't know about them.

So my plan is to keep growing the community with the focus on the forum interaction. I can see giving chat a try at some point but I'd rather grow our community for a while before adding a chat function.

And there will be no charge for it when we add it

Two quick issues. First off sorry Smoke for your bad times. None of us are ever happy about all of lifes little troubles, especially when they all come at us at once. I, too, will keep you in my prayers. Don't want to get religious but the power of prayer is amazing.

Secondly, Ross, I hope you look long and hard at the chat room situation. Years ago when I first had AOL (no longer) I checked out the chat rooms. What a nightmare they were. "Are you a boy or a girl?" "How old are you?" and so on. I certainly enjoy chatting with the regulars on these forums because it has stayed pretty focused on the subjects at hand. If there is some type of chat room that has controls to it, then it might work out, but all the ones I ever saw were more pointed towards kids and sex. There is a time and place for everthing but it seems that some of it is now ending up on Dateline in the form of catching predators. Again if there is some type of control as to how we join, log in or any other type of control it could work but to have it open and free .... then I fear it just becomes another wasted space on the internet.

Smoke....sorry for your troubles. You are sooo lucky to have had time with your Grandma. Those memories will stay with you forever. All my grandparents were gone by time I was old enough to appreciate them. God bless you thru trying times.
