My bike "before" the HD was a 1981 1100cc Wing.
Also nice, but I found it hard to get comfortable on, as the engine protrudes out, and your feet are always set back and you can't stretch them out, like you can on the wide and forward "floorboards" of a Harley. The 83 was the last year for a shovel, and I never had any problems or oil leaks with it.
Make sure you take both for a spin before making up your mind.

Re: Nascar's new idiot (NWS Spoiler)

Wiil do on the ride. I have gotten in about 1,000 miles on my Fathers 04 E-Glide, and I have to say it does suit me.

I will take a ride on a 'Wing, I have to at least give it a shot!

Oh, and these days, that myth of the HD's being unreliable is pretty much just that!

My family is just HD all over.

Dad, Unlce, three cousins, and not a problem one in the bunch.

But my Road Star has been a great bike as well. I have 19,500 on it in just over two years, and it just runs flawlessly.

Being on the "fixed income" I have to make my choices based on my wallet in part. In looking at the GW's I've determined that anything before an '88 could lead to trouble. With my daughters wedding and some home projects the bike may be waiting til next year.
