| Re: Nascar's new idiot (NWS Spoiler) but how many drivers will trust him to do the right thing NEXT time. my guess is every driver on the track will give him a wide berth, just as they do a first race rookie. it's gonna take some time for him to recover the respect he lost from that bonehead move, if he ever can.

| Re: Nascar's new idiot (NWS Spoiler) The spotter told him that the pack was coming by. They were told in the drivers meeting the blend line was in turn two, and he turned up in turn one. Common sense dictates that at a restrictor plate track, you don't turn up into the pack. Of course the first few cars will miss you, but the chances are nill that the entire field will miss you. Only the front few that were lucky enough to see your dumb a$$ turn up in front of 42 cars going 100mph fast. After that first few, someone was going to plow him. And they did. The car does have a rear view mirror, but he shouldn't need that to know that on a re-start they are all going to be bunched together. His actions are indefensible, and the least he could do is apologise. Maybe that is why he has never had a good ride. No judgement. |

I was totally aware that at the drivers meeting they were told turn two. I can't tell you how many times my wife has told me things (so she says !!!) and I didn't remember them. If in fact the spotter did tell him, and I have no reason to doubt that, then it really didn't matter if they couldn't blend into the track until turn three. He plain old screwed up and there is no defense for it. As soon as the next driver messes up he'll be forgotten as far as this incident goes, but I am taking him off my Christmas card list now. |

Lepage started the crash at Talladega Superspeedway when he was coming out of the pits with 47 laps to go Saturday. He tried to blend back onto the track as the pack of traffic raced toward turn 1, effectively entering the racing line at half the speed the rest of the cars were traveling. Carl Edwards practically ran over Lepage's car to trigger the massive wreck. Lepage insisted it wasn't his fault, but took responsibility after reviewing the footage and called it the biggest mistake he's made in his 25 years of racing. "After reviewing the tapes of the accident I realize I need to apologize to NASCAR, the car owners, my fellow competitors and, most importantly, the fans," he said in a statement released by his team, Specialty Racing. "I made a huge driver error by blending onto the race track in the wrong area. This caused a multicar accident and changed the outcome of the race for many teams. "I'm so thankful that no one was hurt considering the number of cars involved." Lepage vowed not to make the same mistake again, and said not accepting blame initially made him look like a "heel." "There is not a single person to blame for this huge mistake except myself," he said. "I have worked very hard over the years to gain the respect of NASCAR, the owners, competitors and the fans, and it will take a long time to gain it back after what happened." Lepage said if he could do it over, he would have let the leaders by before blending on to the track.

| Re: Nascar's new idiot (NWS Spoiler) Didn't mean to blast ya! I just take stupid stuff like that pretty hard. I think we all forget sometimes how dangerous this sport is. I just don't think there is room in it to "forget"! Unlike the stick and ball sports, people die here. And pulling up, where you aren't supposed to, in front of cars doing 100mph more than you, well, that just really sucks. They put you in the back of the field for missing the drivers meeting. What do you think the punishment should be for not paying attention, or for just flat out blowing it, and wrecking 8-10 cars? But if ya feel I was blasting you, then I extend my apologies. Just my 2 cents! Talk to ya'll tomorrow! 5 am comes too early! On to Richmond next week! |

| Re: Nascar's new idiot (NWS Spoiler) guess neither of you drive a diesel, I do. so I'm collecting quarters .. it takes too long to drum up the $4+ for a gallon just collecting a couple pennies at a time! Right now at the cheapest place around here it would cost me $140 to fill up my dually. I'm trying to decide how much I like driving vs bicycle riding - so far, driving is holding a slight edge, but if, as my insurance agent told me today, it's going to $7-8 bucks, I'll be pedaling pretty soon... |
