Looking Forward To Mexico...

Are you?

Because I am...

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing like oval racing but to see stock cars on a road course NOT designed for these types of vehicles makes the event very special!

I've been watching F1 and IRL and it amazes me how much grip those cars have on road circuits because they were designed for doing that but... Take a 3,500 lb. stock car with a left seater (instead of being a centerline seat) and make them traverse the same course and you get to see what the drivers are made of!

My pick? Scott Pruett! Why? Juan Pablo's not in the race, that's why!

Several things to correct here:
  • you seem to be confusing stock car racing with NASCAR racing. Different things. There are stock, semi-stock even silhouette racing (production/stock lookalike that have little or not stock components) series that don't race on ovals. There even as of recent the Speedcar series, witch is the NASCAR twisted-sister of last year raced on road courses as a support series for GP2 Asia and even for some asian F1 Grand Prix.
  • on the other side there are also open wheelers also that race on ovals.
So compared to open wheelers the NASCAR machines aren't designed for maximum performance on either ovals, road courses or street circuits. And on dirt ERC cars would beat them properly.

But the same line of reasoning can go the other way too.
Greater performance comes with demanding faster reflexes, much higher G-forces to withstand, a faster rate of dehidration.

Re: Looking Forward To Mexico...

I'm looking forward to it cause there's only 6 cup drivers in it. Would be even greater if there were only Busch drivers in the busch races. But if 6 is as low as they can get, I'm happy, at least it's not half the field.

hmmm, I found more than 6 on the entry list...
  • #2 - Clint Boyer
  • #6 - David Ragan
  • #7 - Mike Wallace
  • #9 - Patrick Carpentier
  • #12 - Sam Hornish Jr.
  • #20 - Kyle Busch
  • #24 - Brian Simo
  • #25 - Boris Said
  • #28 - Kenny Wallace
  • #40 - Scott Pruett
  • #60 - Carl Edwards
  • #89 - Morgan Shepherd
  • #99 - David Reutimann
  • #161 - Kevin LePage
now, I would accept the arguement that Simo, Pruett and LePage are not Cup drivers 'cause they only make certain Cup events, but by my count there's 11 others who regularly make the cup events. this is probably a bit higher than "normal" since the Cup guys have the weekend off... names missing include Harvick, Stewart & Martin, plus one could make the arguement that Wimmer is a Cup driver since he spent several years in Cup before "falling back" to Busch.

it will be interesting to see how many Cup drivers make the field and how many of the "locals" and "ringers" do not.

Sorry, I meant full time cup drivers, this year. Wasn't sure abut Mike Wallace, so I didn't count him. I only counted Bowyer, Ragan, Carpentir, Busch, Edwards and Reutimann. I didn't even notice Hornish on there. So I count 7. Like I said I was going by full time this year.
But the other cup drivers on there are okay. At least I feel like Busch drivers still have a chance against those.

not this time. unless he's driving under an assumed name, he's not on the entry list and it's too late to register for the race. his only chance would be as a last minute sub for someone else.
