Firestone Racing interested in NASCAR tire deal? If Goodyear were to leave NASCAR, the executive director of Firestone Racing says his company would be interested. Goodyear is NASCAR's exclusive supplier through 2012. "There's a lot of people in our organization that would love to be running NASCAR," Firestone's Al Speyer says. "Our engineers can do a very good job there." Although Firestone has been the exclusive supplier of Indy car racing for several years, stock cars are part of its history. Speyer says the company won many races in NASCAR's first decade (1948-5 Notes: Sauter gets second chance, will replace Mayfield - USATODAY.com

Re: Firestone Racing interested in NASCAR tire deal? Firestone is really a Japanese corporation and is owned by Bridgestone . Bridgestone purchased Firestone in 1988. So, this would be fitting since we have Toyota (a foreign auto make) in the lineup now, to have Firestone tires on NASCAR cars. Whether it is Firestone, Hoosiers, or any other brand, tire composition will determine how good the tires stick to the pavement. It's just the real good ones don't last very long.

Re: Firestone Racing interested in NASCAR tire deal? Nope. Profits come AFTER employees are paid, factories built, supplies, equipment etc are bought. AFTER all that is done, then there are profits. And they go to Japan.

| Re: Firestone Racing interested in NASCAR tire deal? Tires made by American-owned companies: Cooper, Goodyear and Kelly Springfield Tires made by Foreign concerns: Alliance...Israel Armstrong...Italy BFGoodrich...France Bridgestone...Japan Continental...Germany Dunlop...Japan Firestone...Japan General/Gencorp... Germany Michelin...France Mohawk...Japan Pirelli...Italy Uniroyal...France A study by our Labour Department back in 1991 showed that more than half a million jobs had been lost due to what they termed "Transplant" manufacturers. One-third of all foreign autos sold in the US are transplants and NOT counted as imports. (This figure is probably closer to 80% today) So, American workers get paychecks because of the transplants, right? Here's a side you don't hear too often: "Transplants" cost less to produce - up to $700 per car (1991 values) - because of tax breaks and subsidies offered to foreign manufacturers but not to American manufacturers. Those subsidies are paid for by state and federal taxes (read: You and I). On just general principle, I vote we keep Goodyear.

Re: Firestone Racing interested in NASCAR tire deal? Sometime remind me to give you the details of the sweetheart deal the State of Alabama, supposedly representing the best interest of the people of the state, gave to Mercedes Benz for letting them to put a factory in Vance, AL. I'm not a business guru, nor do I have an MBA or more than a slightly above average of economics. However, even I could make money if I were allowed to open a business and got the residual remuneration, decades worth of tax abatements, free training for my employees and much more. True, a lot of good people are getting weekly paychecks but, when yopu address the bottom line, Mercedes-Benz isn't paying them; the people of Alabama are!
