| Newman docked 25 points, crew chief put on probation for violation CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Ryan Newman was docked 25 championship points on Tuesday after NASCAR officials discovered his car was too high following Sunday's Sprint Cup race at Texas Motor Speedway. Also, crew chief Roy McCauley was fined $25,000 and placed on probation until Dec. 31, and team owner Roger Penske was penalized 25 owners' points. The penalty drops Newman, this year's Daytona 500 champion, from being tied with Greg Biffle at eighth, down to 10th place, 189 points behind leader Jeff Burton. Newman finished fourth at TMS while Carl Edwards took the checkered flag for his third win of the season. ESPN - Newman docked 25 points, crew chief put on probation for violation - Racing
