Yes she is fair game as noted by GTG rules. Strange ... I see it as an attack on the honor of the flag and all who fought to defend it. Specifics ?

| Re: Dear Mrs. Harvick! Let me add a unique perspective here. My daughter was an EOD tech in the AF, served in Afghanistan, nearly lost her life. I asked her what she thought of this whole thing. She feels very strongly, and I won't quote her because her assessment of Mrs. Harvick was even more colorful than mine, that Mrs Harvick is wrong in not removing her hat. In boot camp, this discussion apparently came up, although it was not about Mrs. Harvick. The feeling of her instructors was that a baseball cap is not the kind of hat the "rules" were referring to when they said it was ok to leave a hat on if you're female. Those hats are the hats of yesteryear that were and still are worn to church, polo matches, horse races - you know, the big floppy "Gone With the Wind" look. Today's progressive thinking women who often wear baseball style caps should remove them. Technically, this may not be protocol, but in their eyes, as in the eyes of my daughter, it's a deliberate middle finger to our country. So that's the take of one female who has found herself in the stands many times with a cap on, which she does indeed remove. Incidentally, at Oswego Speedway the announcer says "ladies and gentlemen, please remove your hats for the singing our national anthem". On the last "NASCAR Confidential" I saw, it showed Mrs. Harvick during the anthem, talking to and kissing Mr. Harvick, although it was certainly not excessive, but no hand over her heart, cap firmly in place.

| Re: Dear Mrs. Harvick! I don't know where some of you went to etiquitte school... maybe you're used to women who wear freebie hats with the words CAT on it or something. A woman is not required to take her hat off for the anthem, it's the same as woman are not required to take their hat off in church or other indoor social functions where it would be a social faux paus for a man to wear his. It stems from the fact that a lot of ladies hats are attached to their hair and therefore don't really remove. I don't know if she was wearing her hair thru the back of her hat or not. Some of you need to get a little more cultured and help break the NASCAR fan stereotype. |

| Re: Dear Mrs. Harvick! Seems like everyone's had a chance to express their views, although clearly not everyone agrees on the matter. Considering that it seems like emotions are getting out of hand, I think it's a good time to close this discussion down. Thanks to all who shared an opinion on this topic!
