I hadn't noticed, but if I'm sponsoring the team she owns, I'm telling her to get the damn hat off.

Any rule that has to be researched, you should be erring on the side of RESPECT.

I still stand at attention 17 years after getting out, in civilian clothes, when the anthem plays.

She can take the time to take the stinkin hat off.
No, she is not in military uniform, hand over heart,do not know.Do YOU bow your head and close your eyes at every prayer said?

Respect for God and Country are two different things. I don't discuss religion here. None of your business.

I ask you to respect that. Any religious talk I've seen on forums always leads to turmoil.

I would politely suggest we steer clear of that.

Personally, I'd love to hear the answer.
Not a shabby idea.... wonder how we can go about accomplishing that? Would there be any reporter ballsy enough to ask her?

Re: Dear Mrs. Harvick!

From what I've researched women are not required to remove their hats during the National Anthem or while saluting the flag.

The origin of this rule of etiquette was probably during a period of our history when women who attended public events wore dresses and formal hats.

Obviously times have changed but the rules have not.

IMHO, if a women is wearing a dress with an appropriate hat then I'd say the rule stands. Now if a woman is wearing shorts, t-shirt and baseball cap or is wearing similar apparel as the pit crew and a baseball cap then I say they should out of respect remove their head gear or baseball cap.

I mean how hard is it to remove an old scrappy baseball cap during the national anthem?

I don't think it would call into question her femininity if Mrs. Harvick did remove her hat either.

Do the other racer's wives remove their hats during the National Anthem?

If they all do, then you could say it would be more of a NASCAR etiquette than a National etiquette she was breaking.
