Kyle Busch vs Dale Jr.

Listening to the commentary on TV during the first few races was torture for me. Kyle Busch was the new face, Gibbs got a better deal, Kyle was better than Dale Jr., etc. Through 6 races Dale Jr. has 3 top 5s, 5 top 10s, 237 LL, and a 10.8 avg. finish. Kyle has 3 top 5s, 3 top 10s, 336 LL, and a 12.5 avg. finish. My question is where did all the Kyle hype go? Okay so he has led more laps than Jr. What good is leading laps if you can't make the finish. Since his "monumental" win he has finished 17th and 38th. I like you DW, and I'm not saying Kyle isn't talented. But before we hand him the Sprint Cup and crown him king let's finish the season. And one more thing. If you ask Rick Hendrick if he regrets his decision, I'm sure he'll tell you to check the stats.

Re: Kyle Busch vs Dale Jr.

Right you are "stats are stats", but you must admit that Kyle has been more exciting than Jr, and from the entertainment point of view, that's all that matters.

I'll bet ya a new pair of socks that Jr is putting more $$$ in the pockets of HMS than KB is putting in the JGR files.

Dale Jr. hats, shirts and collectibles sell far more than Kyle's stuff. The money goes into JR Motorsports pocket rather than HMS's pocket.

But I will have to admit that I have enjoyed Kyle's driving so far this year. The season is still very young. I look to see Kyle battling for the top spot on the points chart and that will also create dollars for Kyle and Gibbs.

As a Jr fan, I have to admit that Kyle is doing the better job so far.

As of right now technically Jr is cause he is higher in the points standings. However the season is young and there is still a long way to go, and Kyle looks better on track when he isn't blowin up or wreckin.

I understand that. But to me, right now I don't pay attention to the points. It's to early. I'm going by the fact that Kyle has proven he can lead laps and win. Jr has proven he can lead laps, but so far not the one that counts.

Re: Kyle Busch vs Dale Jr.

Prepare to see kb crash and burn. Talented but a loose cannon. Every week he is making more enemies, and I suspect one is Tony S. Watch what happens if he messes with Tony again like he did recently when he was many laps down and Tony was leading. All this will come back and haunt him and I suspect sooner rather than later.

JR is Jr. I'm not a fan but bought my wife an 88 hat so the crazies would be nice as I walked around with my 48 hat. It worked!! Make no mistake, this sport is about sponsors and JR is the Tiger Woods of Nascar. Is Rick H happy with his decision? Duh!!!!!

Re: Kyle Busch vs Dale Jr.

I agree Bassdogs, Kyle needs to quit making enemies. This is from The Daily Planet's review of Alan Bestwick's NASCAR Now show this week:

"Most viewers were waiting for Bestwick to lead the panel into the discussion of the Truck race at Martinsville. After the highlights, the focus was on Benson and his incident with Kyle Busch. The reality of racing and the issues associated with a driver's actions on the track were quickly put into perspective by Benson.

In his normally well-spoken manner, Benson explained that the incident was detrimental to both drivers and was not going to help Busch to win the race as the battle was for second place on the last lap. Benson also cleared up what TV viewers did not see, which was the fight on pit road after the event.

While the video rolled, Benson explained that an obscene gesture from Busch to Benson's pit crew set the incident in motion after the race. As the full-time Truck racer Benson added that Busch's actions cost him twenty-thousand dollars in prize money and several spots in the points, the reality of "Truck-whackers" like Busch was brought into focus.

On Fox Kyle Busch made it sound like he was the innocent victim in the situation and Benson's crew just ran at him to pick a fight for the on-track incident. It was nice to hear the explanation that the crew initially only gave Kyle an innocent but sarcasitic round of applause and only after Kyle flipped them off did the crew members react violently towards Kyle. JB definitely handled this whole situation with class, both Saturday and on this program. The other driver involved in that incident could certainly learn a lot from how a true profressional like Mr. Benson handled himself."

Re: Kyle Busch vs Dale Jr.

Ya know, this months NASCAR Scene has an interesting article in it. It polled NASCAR fans, and asked them to rate the drivers in eight categories.

Awareness
Appeal
Notice
Trend
Influence
Trust
Endorse
Aspiration

Now I don't know how folks measure these things, but guess who finished first??

Yep, Dale Jr.

Kyle Busch, 12th.

Kyle Petty????

5th!!!!

JPM, 27th overall.

I wish they had printed the entire list, and ranked them by category. But these are the only numbers they printed.

I guess what this tells us is that winning isn't everything.

In spite of what we think. Not even a mention of where the 24,48, and 20 are. And those are the folks doing all the winning.

And KP hasn't won since 1995.

Just proves that folks like who they like. And we aren't as influenced by winning as much as some might think.

For my money, I'd rather have Kyle Bush on my race team, but it's really about making money, and it seems that folks favor a driver that isn't even winning, or even making, races over Kyle Bush.
