But why do I see a lot of negative things written here about Delana? Seems to me she's the only female car owner out there worthy of being called such.

Because folks need something to hate. Folks hate DW, folks hate Smoke, folks hate Jeff Gordon.

There are drivers, and people I don't like either, but for some reason, when it comes to sports, people waste their hate on these people.

You have to really care about someone before you can hate em, so I think this should be interesting to hear the responses.

She oughtta take the hat off, but that just makes me think she has no class, or respect. But that is not hate, just what I perceive.

I'm in basic agreement with Phil. Hate is a very strong word and emotion. I try not to use the word in an angry mode. I hate spinach is a little different than hating driver "X".

I do however dislike Delana because of the hat wearing during the national anthem. I know we've had the discussion about should women remove the hat or should they be allowed to wear it. Some argue that it has always been accepted that they can leave them on. To that I say ... no more. That manner was acceptable when ladies wore fancy wide brimmed hats on Sunday and they were pinned to their heads. If we are all created equal and we are all wearing ball caps then "MY" belief is that we all can remove the hat to honor our flag and all it represents. Note that this is "MY" belief and I'm OK with those who disagree. I may not agree with your point but you are welcome to it.

In short I don't hate her but I do dislike what I see of her in this respect.

First of all, I don't "hate" Delana Harvick. I find it impossible to "hate" anyone I don't know personally. For those I don't know I reserve that emotion for someone who has done other grave loss for his/her personal gain.

Mrs. Harvick falls into neither of these categories.

My first experience with the lovely Delana was a radio interview she did with XM's Clare B. Lang three years ago. She spend roughly a half hour detailing how incompetent her husband was, how if it weren't for her he'd probably be living in a van down by the river. She gave the general impression that Kevin, instead of performing in one of the world's most dangerous sports, he should be spending his days wearing a protective helmet and staying away from sharp, pointed objects.

I know talk like this about one's husband is empowering to some and humorous to others. To me, to say things like this over the airwaves and to give no indication that they were said in jest, is beyond reproach. It shows absolutely no respect for the person being described. Ergo, until proven wrong I will give zero respect for the person making the statements.

Her showing disrespect for our flag is just another reason to dislike, but NOT hate, her. Call it convenient.

The fact that she is a car owner is a non sequitur. Rick Hendrick is a car owner also and I hold him in even more contempt than I do Mrs. Harvick.

Since next year will be my 50th year of marriage I can't speak from experience. However, I think that in today's culture I would like to be married to someone like Delana. Why? Because I could divorce her with no regrets and only joy in my heart.

...and that is my reason for showing her absolutely no respect in my post.

Well, that interview gives yet another reason to believe she has zero class. I don't find it very surprising, or hard to believe, that she would do that. I have heard her badmouth Kevin before.

Other than the hat wearing, I have nothing against her. She seems to be a competent and very good car owner. Unlike some of the other wives, she seems to actually do something. As far as the comments she made about Kevin, if you ever watched the show they had on at one time, they both do it to each other.

She rarely shows any respect for her husband and seems to get some kind of sick kick out of bad mouthing him. When Speed featured her on one of those "who's who around the track" type shows last year, it was 30 minutes of her making it clear that she was apparently, in her own mind at least, put on this earth for all to worship. She knows everything about racing - just ask her, she'll be glad to tell you. She's a car owner in name only, I'm guessing there's a legal advantage there. The last interview I saw with her last season she was going on and on about her stupid dog crapping all over their billion dollar carpet. I say, have at it, Fido.

Wow! Your above is gratifying, especially coming from a female. I've kind of been holding my breath awaiting the first charge of "Afraid of women, are we?," "Woman hater!," or the tried and true "Male chauvinist pig!"

I will agree with almost all of your statements. The one thing which I would beg to differ with you on is the "She's a car owner in name only," statement. From everything I have gathered she IS the car owner and everyone who is affiliated with the teams, including Kevie Baby, works for her. She personally handles the management duties and a large percentage of the administrative duties, from what I've read and seen. Her family has been deeply involved with auto racing is SoCal for years and Delana seems to be carrying on a family tradition.

I will never fault her for that. In fact, I respect that quality in her. My only question there is does she know the difference between management and leadership? Also, can she distinguish between micro and macro management? A number of people in similiar positions who feel that "They have something to prove," fail in this area.

But then there are things I respect Rick Hendrick, DW and even Brian France for, so the fact that I complement a person doesn't mean I've drank the Kool-Aid. It just means that I see no one, with the possible exception of political candidates, as being intrinsically evil.

I don't know or never met Delana Harvick so hate is a strong word. But there are some things about her that do rub me the wrong way such as not taking her hat off when they play the national anthem. Or her attitude and comments on certain shows and radio interviews. It's like she has zero respect for anything other then herself. Also when she wears that drivers suit.... Whats up with that?! She looks nuts!
But the thing that probably gets me most is just the amount of PR she gets..For what?! Why do they have to show her every single week? I felt the same way about Brooke Gordon, no other reason then that she got so much face time. They couldn't put her on TV enough. Ken Schrader would kill for the amount of air time Delana Harvick gets or Brooke Gordon got.
I don't know Delana Harvick just SEEMS (don't know for sure) but SEEMS like a royal pain in the you know what. That's what I dislike about her. All I know is if Kevin ever decides to trade her in for the WOT (wife of tomorrow) he will feel it hard and it will make Jeff and Brookes divorce look like a walk in the park!

Once again, Bob, you have said what I meant but didn't quite spell out. My choice of words was less than stellar. This is, in part at least, what I meant about her being a "name only" owner. I know she comes from a racing family and I too, believe she has some knowledge and skills, but she is just so darn in everybody's face! If those "a day in the life of" type shows are even remotely accurate, she only delegates if she can stand right over you and tell you how to do it. OMG, there would be a major cat fight in the first 15 minutes if I ever worked for her! Now, since I'm being honest, I have to say I'm also jus' a lil' jealous. I would love to live a life revolving around racing. I'd be the driver, though, not the cheerleader. (Not that cheerleader's are bad - I even used to be one! )
