The powers that be can do what they want. Stretch an ugly to make an even uglier or chop and stretch. If Honda waved an open wallet in front of Brians face he would make all kinds of concesions. But never a confession. When is Nissan jumping in? They got ugly trucks and would fit right in to Brians plans of totally messing up the whole thing.

Would an expenditure to go to NA__AR really improve or solidify Honda's place in the marketplace? They already have a solid foothold in IRL and IRL is on the way up. No other car maker can beat them in IRL, while in NA__AR they'd go against Ford, GM, MOPAR and Toyota.

personally, I think Honda has decided to take the smart road and if they move to NA__AR it will be only as an almost guaranteed successful marketing ploy where they. alone, would be in the spotlight.

that "No other car maker can beat them in IRL" statement is pretty sly, though inaccurate. "No other engine maker can beat them in IRL" would be accurate. but then there aren't any other engine makers in IRL, are there?

makes sense for them to remain the big frog in the IRL pond .. as I remember, they were in F1, but dropped out 'cause they weren't competitive. in fact 'Yota (who's a back runner) consistently finished in front of them... so, with their recent F1 history, what incentive do they have to venture into NA$CAR with 'Yota already there and starting to dominate?

Re: Ask The Experts ... NASCAR

I'm so flippin' confused! All I get is that Stewart is leaving Gibbs, starting his own team with Hass. Isn't Hass an Indy guy?

No need to try to explain. I don't want to start a zillion posts trying to explain it to me. Perhaps it's a "guy" thing. I suppose I'll get it sooner or later ...

Re: Ask The Experts ... NASCAR

Penny, after some digging, it appears there are two different Haases involved.

Carl Haas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Carl A. Haas (born February 26, 1930) is an American auto racing impresario. He co-owns the Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing team in the IndyCar Series with film actor Paul Newman and Mike Lanigan. Carl Haas also owns Carl A. Haas Motorsports, which competes in the NASCAR Busch Series."

Gene Haas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Gene Francis Haas (born November 12, 1952) is founder, president, and sole stockholder of Haas Automation, one of the world's leading CNC machine tool manufacturers. He also founded a NASCAR team... Haas CNC Racing is a NASCAR racing team based in Kannapolis, North Carolina which runs Chevrolets. The team is owned by Gene Haas and runs the Haas Automation #70 Chevy, and the State Water Heaters #66 Chevy driven by Scott Riggs. The team receives engine and technical support from Hendrick Motorsports... It was announced in July 2008 it would become a partnership with Tony Stewart buying equity interest in the team. Stewart will leave Joe Gibbs Racing/Home Depot to become an owner/driver for Stewart-Haas/Office Depot racing in 2009."

I see. It's the Newman/Haas name that I'm familiar with.

What series are the 70 and 66 in? And now I get the HMS connection.

Thank you!

TF! How the heck are you?! We miss you!

And yes, as we used to write in notes in high school, "I'm writing this slowly because I know you can't read fast."

Penny, the 70 & 66 are Cup cars.

70 has had several drivers this year, but Johnny Sauter seems to see more time in it than anybody else: for Indy Jason Lefler is at the wheel.

66 is Scott Riggs ride, though it seems he will be looking for another ride next year when Tony comes on board...

Tony will be driving the #14 (as a tribute to his idol, AJ Foyt.) Haas has applied for copyright of the 14 number so it will be protected in their souvenir sales. Primary sponsor is expected to be Old Spice.

It's a shame too. It wasn't long ago many people thought he was headed for his first win in Ray Evernham's #10. Then Ray went all Casey Atwood on him and 'ol Russell's begun the same downward slide.

That's two driver's Evernham's done that to; Casey and Scott. But he bounced Mayfield so he can't be all bad.
