| Re: why do so many people hate NASCAR? I did not like it myself until about 2 years ago when one of my co-workers started explaining the rules and such. Once they got me to Darlington, it was on from there. Ain't nothing better except Bama football. |

| Re: why do so many people hate NASCAR? Im sure there aren't a lot of people that hate Nascar, especially if you campare them to the amount of people who LOVE Nascar. Nascar is the most loved sport in America I think... maybe second to football. And did you know that for every two guys that like nascar there is a woman that likes it. I find the amount of female viewership in nascar amazing, probably higher than any other sport! |

| Re: why do so many people hate NASCAR? Just to set the record straight, if I may. The 1911 Indianapolis 500 was NOT a stock car race, as such. All types of cars, i.e., stock chassis, semi-stock, and all-out thoroughbred racing cars were elgible and allowed to race together. The basic provision on all the vehicles however was a 600 cubic inch limit on the engines. It is true that most, but certainly not all, of the entrants used stock, or a slightly modified stock chassis. However the winning Marmon, for instant, was no stock car although it used some or many stock car components in its construction. The Benz, Fiat, and Mercedes cars that ran were all-out racing vehicles. Russ Catlin, in his AAA CHAMPIONSHIP HISTORY 1909-1917 states that the 1911 Indianapolis 500 was for stock chassis only, which is quite incorrect-PRINTZ |

| Re: why do so many people hate NASCAR? As a Canadian, very far away from big league racing my friends and co-workers love to ridicule me for being a NASCAR fan. In fact, I openly admit that I much prefer NASCAR over hockey, to which my friends and family threaten to have me thrown out of the country. They all cite the same reasom. 43 idiots going around in circles. I like to tell them that is just like any other sport, only at 200mph. You have rivalries, you have scandals, and most importantly you have excitement. For football fans, you watch a play and then nothing while they huddle, line up and run the ball 2 yards. Rinse/repeat. Boring. I have been able to sit a few friends down and once I explain what the announcers mean by 'loose' and 'tight' or what pit strategy the leaders are on etc. The 'almost' get into it. Then the 8 million commercials ruin it for a possible new fan. With knowledge comes appreciation of the sport and the fact that they are not just 'matting it and turning left'. It is up to us fans to try and expling that over and over to the critics. |

Then take 'em to the local "rent a kart" and let them feel the juices flow. Even if the "juices" are of the fear type (vs. the competitive type) the respect for what they are viewing/have become of fan of, will be greater than if they never have the direct experience at all. |

For some people NASCAR is an acquired taste. And some don't want to spend the effort to acquire the taste. I think "HATE" is the wrong word in this instance: "enviousness/jealousy", "boring", "what's the point?", and "lacking class" are some of the words I might use to describe those folks feelings towards NASCAR.

| Re: why do so many people hate NASCAR? The answer to this question is simple, there are some sports some people just can not get into, for some people it's NASCAR, I myself like NASCAR it's not my favorite, but I like it. Now I love sports as much as anyone but there some sports I just can not get into those would Boxing, Pro Wrestling, Tennis, and Soccer. It's just a matter of personal opinion.
