Yep. Another talent withering on the vine while drivers in Cup who just won't give it up, stay driving.

Yeah they swapped before the season started and supposedly there has been talk of it again if Hornish falls out of the top 35. I personally don't think it should be allowed at all and Nascar should step in and stop all this, but I doubt it.

In case ya'll don't remember, this deal with the 44 & 00 was put in place before the season started. Exactly when DJ announced his retirement. And they got sponsor approvals and everything. UPS wants Rooty in their car. McDowell has been waiting for the 00 to become "free" since then. There never was any plan to "swap owner points" that I was ever aware of. And with Mikey firmly in the Chosen, I doubt he's concerning himself with it right now...

Re: Points Swap v.3

I understand what MWR is doing. And that was announced during off season when DJ decided to retire. But I still don't think they should let the 2 and 77 swap again.

I knew of the plan to switch rides, I just thought part of the plan was to swap owner points. I know they want to ensure the 44 being in the field because it has UPS for the sponsor while the 00 doesn't have a full time sponsor (I think Aaron's was a partial sponsor). I guess it maybe a moot point since all the cars are in the top 35. Here is a scenedaily write up about the points.

Thanks for the link to the story, Bryan.

If you read the article carefully, it appears the writer was talking to McDowell who was answering honestly and saying what everyone already knows: MWR's primary sponsors are UPS and NAPA, and they'll do what they need to do to keep them satisfied. Cleverly, the writer makes use of "what everybody knows" in framing his story. I didn't see anything that smacked of "from Mikey"... This may be another case where the media is trying to "make" a story out of a "long shot maybe."

If the media would just report instead of analyze and surmise, (almost) everyone would be happier. It amazes me how many people (present company excepted) will take the media's word as gospel and run screaming "the sky is falling!" down the street. I, for one, would rather use my brain than take the word of some media hack who's looking to pad his wallet with stories (fact or fiction, makes no difference) published....

Yeah, I get where you are coming from that this is not Mikey's words, just a writer reading what he wants into a situation. Most of what you hear is probably speculation from people that know as much about the situation as you and I.

It does however make sense to swap the points though to further insure that the #44 stays in the top 35. If David has a bad week with the #44's owner points he is out of the top 35, but if he takes his earned #00's owner points over than he is still in the top 35. That said, I can see the flip side where they want to ensure they get 3 cars in. There is a good chance this McDowell kid will struggle for a while, whereas they think David will more than likely keep the car in the top 35.
