Sounds cool!

The unveiling is set for May 14! I'm going to be there. I'm off that day anyway, so I'll be getting some pics when the do the ceremony!

Thanks Yates. What, exactly, is the makeup of the figure? I assume it isn't contrete but some sort of fiber composite?

You had a very unique opportunity to see such a creation in the making. I envy you that. What will the final dimensions be? Weight? etc.?

Thank you for sharing. I enjoyed the pix.

It was totally cool to be allowed the opportunity to take birth photos of the Miles the Monster composite!! The frame is made of steel rods welded together, surrounded by "cages" of chicken wire, then it was enclosed with the green foam, more foam will be added, then it will be cut and scuplted. The final coating will be of a fiberglass composite, which will be sanded and smoothed to a work of perfection. I'm sure that it will be finished in some sort of paint coating, what, I'm not sure, but will find out. I will have to ask some more questions when I go over there to take more photos.

The Monster Monument will stand 46-feet-tall amongst race fans in the newly created Victory Plaza at Dover International Speedway. Nearly five stories tall, the structure depicts the monster bursting out of the concrete ground, carrying with him a full-scale stock car in his right hand that will hover high over race fans below. Glowing red eyes and a menacing grin will make the monster a “must see” for race fans visiting the Monster Mile in June, September, and all year round. Motorists on Route 1, the major highway behind the Speedway, will also be able to see the Monster Monument’s bright red eyes when commuting past the track. The 60-foot-round base of the monument will serve as a tribute to all Dover race winners and legendary drivers who make their mark at the Monster Mile. Special driver dedications will be commemorated around the base of the monument which will also include a chronological listing of Dover winners by race and series. Complete story link below.

Cool Phils, I was going to pm you and let you know when Miles the Monster is leaving Lancaster, Pa to head to his new home at the Dover Speedway Fanzone. I was trying to find the thread that you started about the Fanzone so I could add these photos, but I couldn't find it. I wasn't trying to hijack your thread.

Re: Birth photos of Dovers Miles Monster composite

Just taken today, they have cut a section around his head. I guess the disassembling is beginning. I'm sure that they have to do the fiberglass inside. Notice the rope hanging from the crane arm holding his head.
I thought they were beginning to disassemble Miles the Monster, but actually they didn't have his head angled quite right, so they were changing the position of his head.

Re: Birth photos of Dovers Miles Monster composite

I did a rough "guesstimate" of the base size, I came up with 25 feet in length and 10 feet in width from front to back. They said Miles the Monster has a chest span of 67 foot and waist span of 57 foot.

Notice all the chunks of foam from cutting the section around Miles the Monsters head, looks like souvenir pieces!!
