Yep, the crane is gone so I guess they're all done. What a great job they did putting Miles together in one day. That's a reflection on the incredible job the guys in PA did building Miles to start with. I bet he looks awesome in person with the car up in his hand.

Re: Birth photos of Dovers Miles the Monster composite

Big thanks to Team Yates and Phils20 for the great effort they have put into sharing all these photos with us. No doubt it was a labor of love for you guys but it was just magnificent for us to see the birth of Miles, watch him get assembled at his new home and Phils close ups of him at Dover. Thanks a ton !!!

Re: Birth photos of Dovers Miles the Monster composite

Well, I'm just glad to help! I think we are both lucky to be on opposite ends of the process. This thread has truly been a Team Yates project! I just hope I can do my part now that Miles has come to rest at his home!

Holy Crap is he big! Bigger than I thought he would be. Those pics are at 10X Zoom, so I wasn't as close as I will be in May, but I can tell he is just literally a Monster!

Yates at the start, and me at the end! I will carry on with some pics as I see changes come up, and conclude with the opening ceremony on May 14th, and then some race weekend pics, as the masses get to check him out!

Not a problem LSC!! Really all the thanks goes to the guys at ACI (freelance and permanent)!! Without their consideration and kindness, I never would have been able to get all the photos that I did get to share!!
Much Thanks to the ACI team!! And a great big Thanks to Joe from the track for hooking us up with a live camera feed and photos, that was totally cool!! I believe that they are going to continue updating us with photos of the progress of Miles the Monster!! Keep checking in!!

Yes Phils we are both very lucky to have been able to come together from opposite ends to come up with a terrific thread on Miles the Monsters birth!! Thanks for your photos of Miles the Monster from last night!! Great sunset photo!! It did turn out great!! The thread only became as good as it did thanks to the guys working on the project. Without them or Dover contracting someone to build Miles, we wouldn't have anything, so a very BIG THANK YOU to all who participated in the idea, funding and building of Miles the Monster. That's great Phils that you can continue bringing us Great Monster photos.

Re: Birth photos of Dovers Miles the Monster composite

Hey, it's Kelly the lead sculptor on Miles. Anyone have any questions ?
Everything's going well on the install so far. I'm worried about the left thumb fitting on the skirt , but it'll work. Steve and I aren't down there but Dwight has it under control. Thanks to everyone who followed the birth of Miles. As a sculptor, I don't get much feed back on my work. You guys really pumped us up!!!!

Re: Birth photos of Dovers Miles the Monster composite

Well, from a distance, that thumb sure seems to fit well enough! There isn't anything about it that seems out of place.

Of course, I don't know what you had pictured in you mind, but all seems well!

When I was down taking my pics last night, there was another car there, and several more stopped to marvel at it while I was walking around it!

I was tempted to walk back closer, but I guess I'm just too chicken to get in trouble!

I'm going to check in again later, probably in a week with the camera, but maybe prior to that. I get down to Dover about three times a week, and I may just have to keep the camera handy!

Is the car that will be there up to your folks to put there, or is that the tracks deal?

I might have to head back down today if that is going to happen soon!

Again, this think is just awesome, and I think that Miles is going to be a big hit for the fans!

Thanks for all your hard work!

Glad you're all having a great time with this. Here are some shots from the website and a link to WBOC's TV coverage of the monument: Dover International Speedway - The Monster Mile® - The Monster Monument is standing tall in Victory Plaza at Dover International Speedway

By the way, "guys in suits pulled up ..." -- you're making ME sound scarier than the monster itself! Ha.

Re: Birth photos of Dovers Miles the Monster composite

it's not like I said you were in a black suburban and wearing dark sun glasses

I was the one in the white suburban, my wife thought I was going to over over the cones in front while I was trying to get the sun behind miles hand.

I'm going to try and come to the unvieling of miles on the 14th
