| Just wondering So far this season alot of the drivers are complaining about how the car and the tires are doing. They had said this COT was gonna put the driving back in the drivers hands instead of depending on aero and all. Could all the complaints be cause the drivers are spoiled to not having to " drive" before like they are now? I was just wondering what ya'll thought.

| Re: Just wondering That's what I'm talking about. I think they've gotten use to the car almost being perfect for them and now they actually have to do the driving. Just seems like maybe somes not adapting to good. |

| Re: Just wondering I've heard that they were going to add some more downforce to the CoT in the form of a larger front spoiler. The rumor when I heard it before daytona said it could happen as early as this week. But now, I hear nothing. Anybody know what I'm talking about? |

Front spoiler? Something is awry here. "Spoilers" are airflow disrupters, drag producers, lift killers. Perhaps in some obtuse manner one may see "less lift" as "more downforce"(?), but that's a real stretch. An example of a spoiler in racing are the roof flaps. "Larger front spoiler" seems in and of itself inaccurate. Quite possible we stand to learn a lot here. |

re: Bold above - big time yes. That splitter stops a whole bunch of air from passing over the car by capturing and channeling it around. Huge impact if eliminated. Huge. Of course this would be a major step towards last years "other car", a big step away from COT/CON or whatever, and I do not expect holding our breath waiting for this to happen would get us anything but dead and/or passing out. |

now, they might move the air dam further forward...

| Re: Just wondering Duck: Is there an air dam on the front of the COT car? The splitter sets right on the ground. That area above the splitter (what ever it is called) catches the air flow causing front end down force. What does the air dam do? Or, is that area above the splitter the air dam? |

| Re: Just wondering I was hoping someone would ask! Thanks, BisquitMan. Yep, that vertical area between the bumper and the splitter is the air dam. And it's function is exactly that: to dam up the air, preventing it from going under the car. Surprisingly, the only function for the splitter to to keep a small bit of air from going under the air dam. The cup guys use it (the splitter) to test how far onto the bump stops they're actually going: the more it's scraped up, the farther down they're going. But, you've probably heard about drivers complaining about riding "on" the splitter, causing the suspension to NOT work .. that's what happens when they go too far. |

| Re: Just wondering quit too soon... the air dam doesn't cause much in the way of down force. it's job it to make the air go around the car, not over it. now, there is a side affect of having the air dam and splitter together .. it piles up the air in front of the car, and so some air does go over the car, thus providing some down force. there, that should cover it. |
