Only 46 cars entered for Bristol?

This leaves me with a few questions:

1- Does this mean that the COT is NOT less expensive for small teams?

2- What happens if only 42 cars enter a race?

3- When was the last time only 46 cars showed up to qualify?

Bill Davis' 2nd team and Beth Ann Morganthal are AWOL. Any bets on how long the #34 team and the Wood Brothers will last?

Actually, the Wood Brothers will be around awhile, for six more races anyway. When Jarrett retires and Kurt will be in the Chosen, Bill Elliott will get the Champ Provisional.

Not when Bobby L. takes it after Kyle swaps owner points with his dad.

I never saw the COT as less expensive, just that you had to buy less car to do a season. But you still need $$$$ to race.

Only 42 cars will run, but I am pretty sure some third party will come and grab 43rd place money. Much like Morgan Sheppard is doing in Nationwide, ride till the first pit stop then park the car with "handling" problem and grab a 38-43rd position.

But if only 42 cars would be in a race, it might be a wake up call to NASCAR that small team can't survive. But NASCAR might not see it...

  • Three do not qualify [DNQ] for the Sharp Aquos 500 at California Speedway: #10-Riggs [24 team attempts/37th in OWNERS pts], #4-Burton [23/41]; #44-Jarrett [24/40].(8-31-2007)

Nascar used to have less than 40 for a lot of races back in the early 90's..........didn't hurt the racing any.

The reduction in teams isn't surprising in today's economy.

I would venture to say that these low budget or one-car teams would have to build 3 type of COT cars for:
  • 2 1/2 mile Speedway tracks
  • 1 to 2 mile tracks (the cookie cutter tracks)
  • 1/2 mile short tracks (Bristol and Martinsville)
Most teams have already confirmed that their speedway cars are different from the others. So this may be one reason why some don't show up. Also, chances are that they would have to start in the rear of the field at these short tracks. That's where most of the calamity takes place. Maybe they don't want to loose a total car at Bristol or Martinsville.

I've been wondering when somebody else would notice that. Kinda like Derrick Cope in Cup...

Re: Only 46 cars entered for Bristol?

since they have more entered than will start, the only thing different is the length of the DNQ list....

Bill Davis has only fielded 2 cars for 1 race in '08 .. Las Vegas with Skinner aboard. Skinner's in the 84 this week... I don't think Bill has a #2 driver .. just hired guns...
