| Re: Latest Wallace hoping to break female stereotypes At this point in the history of NASCAR I would say that any woman who makes it into the cup series based on ability is successful.. Obviously we have not yet had a female champion so the level of success isn't that high yet. There are many speculations as to why we have yet to have a long term successful female. Which one is correct leaves the door wide open to interpretation. I would suggest that there isn't any one reason but several factors. All matters of opinion.

I am teasing, of course. She's yet to win a race in her series. Seriously, I don't want her even thinking about coming to NASCAR. The most current female NASCAR driver is Erin Crocker. She, ah, kinda blew it by sleeping with her boss, but hopefully the ride she is in now in the Truck Series will help her redeem herself. She ran ARCA last year and did pretty decently. I googled 'female NASCAR drivers' earlier and came up with a number of names. The most interesting link was from wikipedia that listed a few. Category:Female NASCAR drivers - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Women haven't participated in NASCAR racing on a steady basis, and none have won a race. A few have cracked the top 5. I hope Crissy Wallace can accomplish what she sets out to do and prove the current trend of thought wrong regarding female drivers. She'll probably drive circles around cousin Steve. And Kudos to Germain Racing for fielding a truck for her!! That is so awesome, I can't wait to watch here debut in the Truck Series. Justin Marks is the rookie I'm cheering for, and he's part of Germain too.

| Re: Latest Wallace hoping to break female stereotypes Didn't she run the Indy 500 after running NASCAR? Guess I better check that out myself. If she was even semi-successful in both series, that's quite an accomplishment for any driver, male or female. |

| Re: Latest Wallace hoping to break female stereotypes ok, duh, should have checked out the link first. I would say her (Guthrie's) performance in both stock car and open wheel was not too shabby. It looks to me she was quite a versitile driver. |

| Re: Latest Wallace hoping to break female stereotypes I still think there hasn't been a sucessful NASCAR woman driver. And yes Janet has been the most sucessful female to date. But I would say far from what I consider sucessful. I don't think you have to win a lot of races or championships to be considered sucessful. But you have to be around for awhile ya know? D. Pat in the IRL hasn't won anything but I do consider her as being sucessful. She makes the races and has had a full time ride for several years now. NASCAR hasn't had a female that has done a fraction what D. Pat has accomplished. Maybe this Wallace girl will and with a last name of wallace she will prob. get as many chances as anyone has before. |

In the Guthrie/Patrick success measure that seems to be defined here (considered success = "have to be around for awhile"), Guthrie would "win". Yet it appears Guthrie is seen as unsuccessful as compared to Patrick who has been around less, with less success(?). Obviously we are lost/missing something here, but that is common and we are actually learning to enjoy it. There seems also in the above to be a search for a personally defined and accepted NASCAR success. Patrick is obviously out of that to date, and in this measure too would "lose" to Guthrie again/also. ******************************************* In any case, we come real close to "hate" as it relates to stereotypes. Having had the opportuinity to be the Novice/Rookie director at a local track, we've had the priviledge of working with a number of female/lady/(personal favorite word here) drivers and their teams. Having been this close and involved in motorsports, to our eye they were each and every one a success. Each and every one. |

Janet Guthrie, while not the original pioneer, did run in 33 races over a 4 year period and had 5 top 10's to her credit. |

"Stereotypes" was in the title string, not your response. Somehow you felt you were seen as supporting this view. I did/do not see your response in this regard. If you do, I cannot help with this. "Hate" was associated with a segment of my feelings around "stereotypes". Somehow you chose to own "hate". I cannot explain this, and will not try. "Everyone" that I personally and directly worked with was a success. You have chosen for your own purposes of expression and self right to extend it beyond to include all kids and everyone. You are totally entitled to enjoy yourself within this. However, it in no way dimishes those specific female individuals that I worked with. They were all and each successes. There's crap here indeed. I'm done. Feel free to talk with yourself. |

| Re: Latest Wallace hoping to break female stereotypes Let me add that opinions are greatly and graciously encouraged and accepted here. The title thread is about a woman who will try to break the stereotypical perception of women in racing. Lets not turn this into a class on who said what and what you said that meant what I thought. OK ??? |
