| Goodyear responds to criticism Goodyear officials defended their tire selection for the race weekend at Atlanta, which was done based on data and feedback gathered from tests last year and finalized in December following a test with six-time race winner at the venue Bobby Labonte. They also stated that NASCAR fully supports them as the series' official tyre supplier. "Based on Goodyear's tyre testing at Atlanta last August, October and December, we provided what we believed were the best possible products for the races this past weekend," a statement from Goodyear read. -- Autosport.com autosport.com - NASCAR News: Goodyear responds to criticism |

| Re: Goodyear responds to criticism Tony really laid it on thick to Goodyear. While I don't think the tire was of good quality whatsoever, I do think that Goodyear is doing their best to bring the best race possible tire to NASCAR. Smoke disagrees, but honestly...nobody had wrecked Tony this year, he hasn't gotten into a squabble with a teammate yet, so Tony was needing something to complain about. |

| Re: Goodyear responds to criticism I might would think that too if Gordon, Jr, Newman and Biffle and some others weren't also complaining about the tires. But Tony's not the only one saying anything, so it can't be that he just needed to vent. |

| Re: Goodyear responds to criticism It's obvious that over the past 10 years Goodyear has been better to Tony then Tony has been to Goodyear. If I was NASCAR I'd tell Tony to pack it up, go back to Eldoura with your little cars and Hoosier tires and have a nice life. The other drivers mentioned here did say they weren't happy with the tire that Goodyear had there this weekend... That's fine, maybe they didn't but what Tony did was way out of line. |

| Re: Goodyear responds to criticism Tony said during his interview that CART used to use Goodyear and dropped them, same with F1, IRL, and world of outlaws. Why would all of those drop Goodyear unless it sucked. Every single race goodyear changes the tire. Even if they had the best race ever the last time, next time they go to that track they change the tire. It doesn't make any since. They need to make the tire for every race the same. Just make it a little soft so that it grips and let them go. Find a tire that lets the car race the middle line and every race would be awesome. |

| Re: Goodyear responds to criticism Goodyear wasn't kicked out of those series. Some of them Goodyear just left. Tony went over the line when he said in his interview that Goodyear had stupid people and the good engineers were gone and then went on his rant about Goodyear street tires. Everyone wants to jump on Goodyear, but NASCAR dictates what tire and how conservative they want to be. NASCAR dictates that they run the same tire in Truck, Bush, and Cup all the same. NASCAR is the one that tells Goodyear the worst possible scenario is a blowout on the track. |

No offense but do you have any racing experience? Some of the tracks are new asphalt, some are wore out old asphalt that eats tires fast. Some of the tracks are concrete and stay relatively the same no matter the season unlike asphalt. Some tracks are part asphalt and part concrete. The tire you run at Martinsville would blow off the rim on a track like Daytona at those speeds, if you ran a speedway tire on Martinsville you would run thru the corners after 15 laps.. NO WAY that will happen. |

| Re: Goodyear responds to criticism Consider this scenario: You own several vehicles... A passenger car - a sedan, four doors, nothing special. This is your "supermarket" and errands vehicle. You also own a two-door sporty number. Maybe a convertible or a T-top or a "special" rebuild of an old car that you hold very near and dear to your heart. This one goes out on good days and resides in the garage, protected from the elements... You also have a pickup truck. Perhaps it's slightly lifted but it's your "shaker and mover" because not only is it "pretty" it's also utilitarian (meaning: a utility vehicle) and it'll haul just about anything including pulling your boat! Question: would you use the SAME, identical, tires on all each of these vehicles? You see, the way Goodyear has it right now, they brought the SAME TIRE for the Trucks, Nationwide and Cup cars this past weekend in Atlanta! The SAME, identical tire compounds were used for ALL races! They differentiated the truck from car tires by changing the sidewall names but (from what I learned) these were the same tires! Can you expect the same performance from all vehicles considering how different these racing vehicles are on the same tires? Why hasn't Goodyear addressed the differences? They've had a long-enough time to "figure it out" yet they haven't. On his show, Tony Stewart said that Goodyear was stubborn and I see why.

Question: would you use the SAME, identical, tires on all each of these vehicles? *********************************************** As we initially gave response (silent response to inner thoughts) to the question posed above, the response was a resounding - "For Goodness sakes no!" ********************************************* But then we mused - but what/how would the resultant chosen tires for our personal stable of vehicles (described above) appear were we presented with?: "You must now take all of your personal stable of vehicles and enter all in to competition that will involve the same competitive surface, under comparatively the same competitive conditions (dry surface, same geography, time of year, maximum speed, etc.), the same racing configuration (i.e. oval, roadcourse, straight line, etc.), and chose to either keep your presently mounted tires, or chose another you feel to be more appropriate to competitive success". Would the resultant choice (tires), when presented with the above, continue to be the clearly different choices made for the specifc and different applications in my daily life, or is there a difference in the scenarios such that the scenarios are not reasonably comparable, and the chosen tires may move towards "sameness"? ********************************************* As our own angel/devil internal debate played out, we came to: 1. The initial required comparison (described/known personal use needs vs. described/known competitive needs) are significantly different as to render a common response, at the very least, subject to question. However, leaping this limitation (moving outside the box?) we moved to - 2. The tires we would chose for the described competitive scenario, as compared to those we would chose in/for our "daily life" scenario, would comparatively approach "sameness", conceiveably perhaps approaching "identical". Thusly moving/taking our initial emotionally driven response to the question - ( "For Goodness sakes no!" ) - to a less strong (often the weakness associated with over analysis of self questioning) - conceivably yes. ********************************************* Now if you followed that (The big "you", not the personal "you"), I might need you to explain it to me. But I'll require proof of a valid PHD in the associated field first. ********************************************* But what do we know? |
