Robby Gordon Sells team

From Jayski:

Robby to sell? hearing that Alex Gillett [George Gillett's son] has purchased Robby Gordon Motorsports [#7 Dodge] and will run it as a separate entity from Gillette-Evernham Motorsports. Plans are to eventually expand it to a multi-car team. Assuming Robby Gordon will stay on as driver...if this is true. Currently Gordon owns the team, but has a technological and marketing partnership with Gillett Evernham Motorsports and is 24th in driver/owners points.(3-10-200 Comment here

Re: Robby Gordon Sells team

So let me see, the son of 1/2 of Gillete Evernham is going to buy Robby Gordon's team?

If that's the case why not just run the 7 out of the Gillete Evernham shop all together?

I must be missing something. Unless it has to do with Robby being in the top 35 now.

Sounds to me like Gillete is making a "major" move in Nascar and is starting a mass consolidation among the teams. Maybe 8 cars are better than 4.
Petty saw the light, the last few will probably also get swollen up soon.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Robbie go back to open wheel

Yeah I guess that they may have been premature in saying that it was a done deal, but this doesn't mean that it couldn't happen in the near future though.

Re: Robby Gordon Sells team

Doesn't mean that it won't happen later this week. Just means hasn't been done yet.

I'd bet that it is. Another one (single car team owner and driver) bites the dust.

Will Gillette start calling his son, Alex, "Papa Alex?"

Valvolinie has only made 1 race this year .. with Carpentier at Las Vegas. I think it was one of those "rub my back..." deals: Robbie's needing sponsor money and he's in the Chosen .. the 10 car isn't = sponsor economics 101.
