| Edwards loses 100 points for Vegas rules violation HAMPTON, Ga. -- Carl Edwards' first stint atop the Sprint Cup series points standings was short-lived. NASCAR on Wednesday penalized Edwards 100 championship points for a rule infraction discovered following Sunday's victory at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, taking him from a 21-point lead over Kyle Busch to seventh place. Edwards also lost the 10 bonus points he would have received when the points are reshuffled if he is one of the 12 drivers that makes the championship chase. Also, crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $100,000 and suspended for the next six races, and team owner Jack Roush was penalized 100 owner's points. | Re: Edwards loses 100 points for Vegas rules violation The only thing I don't agree with is taking the 10 points if he's in the top 12 when they reset the points. If they're gonna let him keep the win then he should keep the points for it. |

| Re: Edwards loses 100 points for Vegas rules violation I actually feel bad for Carl Edwards because in Sprint Cup, how much hands-on work does the driver do to the race car aside from driving it?!? What I find troubling - but accept as being a part of the "game" mind you - is why does the driver get penalized for "technical" violations of the car? I can understand giving the driver a thorough thrashing if he does something deliberate like Kurt Busch did in almost running over a crew member on pit road last season but what does Carl Edwards have to do with an oil sump cover, thingamajig?!? I don't know... Hit 'em where it hurts I guess...

| Re: Edwards loses 100 points for Vegas rules violation Another good analogy is in football only one player needs to be off sides, but the entire team suffers the penalty. |

| Re: Edwards loses 100 points for Vegas rules violation I think taking the 10 bonus points is the closest they will ever come to actually taking a win away from a car that fails inspection. When that starts happening the teams will either have to stop cheating or get better at it. |

| Re: Edwards loses 100 points for Vegas rules violation Carl Edwards is going to have to learn that winning by cheating isn't winning. I mean if it's not bad enough that his pit crew is throwing tires out onto pit road so Carl can beat the other drivers out, he also has to take the lid off the oil cooler! That sort of sportsmanship can not be tolerated by NASCAR! They should have fined him 500 points. NASCAR can't throw down on Jeff and Jimmie and then be so lenient on Carl Edwards and his cheating ways!!

| Re: Edwards loses 100 points for Vegas rules violation If you see this on my post, take it with a grain of sand. Although I do remember hearing a lot of chatter about the Cheating ways of HMS, Chad Knaus, Jeff Gordon, etc. The Carl Edwards thing is more about the penalty, did it make any difference in the out come of the race, was the fine too high or too low, etc. Gives us all something to talk about until race Sunday. Then we'll have new stuff to talk about, well, if the race is any good anyway. |
