NASCAR animated gopher named Digger

After asking NASCAR drivers on-air for suggestions and getting about 1,600 online ideas, the wait is over. Fox has named its animated gopher character, who pops up when Fox is using cameras in the surface of tracks, and it's "Digger." Now, let's name the various NASCAR onscreen graphics. -- USA Today

I'd have opt'd for "Target." When I was growing up on an Indiana farm, gophers and groundhogs were excellent things to make sure your rifle was ranged in.

What you call a groundhog I call a Whistlepig. Either way Good target practice alongside Coyotes

Fox needs to upgrade Digger's camera. He was out of focus for most of the race this past weekend.

Digger or not, they should improve the quality of their graphic, when the show it in the middle of the screen you see the square from zooming the graphics

It's a nice POV, but they over abuse it thought.

Re: NASCAR animated gopher named Digger

I'm wondering about how high it sticks up & is it possible for it to cut a tire? From some of the shots it obviously in the track path as cars were passing over top of it.

Re: NASCAR animated gopher named Digger

When I saw that "gopher" I said what the hell, this is really annoying ?!
Such low cameras were used at other types of motorsport transmissions for some time now without any such "gophers".
Why on earth is fox filling the screen with such crap ?!
... it's bad enough that they're pouring so many commercials.

in a word: entertainment.

and they have data to prove it's entertaining: there's a 3 year old in Dubuque who liked the gopher, and a 6th grader in Hot Springs who liked the "Digger" moniker .. and one or two other "junior" fans (as opposed to "Jr." fans) who thought it was "cool"

they are believing the way to increase NASCAR's viewership is to provide better entertainment .. which translates into guaranteed renewal of their contract .. which could translate into an expanded race coverage.... and they're targeting their young and future fans. bottom line: more $$$

however, just because you have a premis that's acceptable to the few (in power), it doesn't mean the premis is true, nor that the anticipated outcome will prevail. such is the march of fools...
