Re: Mike Skinner

Bill Davis Racing put Mike Skinner in the 27 car to qualify for these races. Skinner qualified 6th for the Las Vegas race and finished 30th. This helps put the car in the top 35.

Jacques Villeneuve is hoping to race this summer in Montreal at the Nationwide race to be held Aug. 2 at Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. Villeneuve is a Canadian and will be a local favorite. Most important, it will give him "seat time" in a NASCAR race car. He needs to spend a lot of time in this car on tracks he would compete on. Even the greatest of drivers have to become familiar with the "heavy weight" car that NASCAR uses. These are much different than an ultra light Indy car.

Re: Mike Skinner

I am sorry if I am speaking out of turn where villeneuve is concerned but I think Bill Davis should be ashamed of himself for letting villeneuve go after the crash in qualifying at daytona, I mean i'm sure guys like earnhardt have had simmilar crashes but I don't see them being let go?

As for villeneuve needing car time, is the best way to give him car time and experience in a NASCAR for his team boss to say "listen Jacques we know you need time in the car but that crash was your fault so unfortunately we'll have to let you go", its obvious davis knows nothing about villeneuve and how good a driver he is and the skill he could bring to the team.

One word: FOOL.

I basically agree with your train of thought but I believe that there was more to the decision than you state.

J.V. (A truly great driver with impeccable credentials) was put in the seat with the stipulation that he would provide a sponsor. (I've heard it was to be either a large electronics Co. or a Canadian bank) but the deal fell through.

Bill can come up with some minor sponsorship but the money Jacques demands makes such a deal impractical. Skinner and Benson are already on the payroll and they're driving for seat time and exposure to other team owners plus a cut of the prize money only.

Letting J.V go was mostly a matter of basic economics. I, like you, really hated to see Jacques go. I think he would have added immeasurably to NA__AR throughout the world.

#27 team suspends operations: Slugger Labbe, crew chief of the #27 Toyota for Bill Davis Racing told Mike Bagley and David Poole on The Morning Drive (Sirius NASCAR Radio 128) that the team has suspended operations due to lack of funding. The #27 may run Talladega but sponsorship money is needed to keep this team afloat.(Sirius NASCAR Radio 12(3-10-2008

Skinner looked good in the 84 for Red Bull, he made the race, which is something Allmedinger couldn't.

Oops.... I forgot when I put this in here that they had put Skinner in the 84.
And you are right, the 84 finally made a race. Let's hope it keeps doing that.

Easy bears..... Allmedinger was right there on the verge. It was because of that damn top35.... He just didn't have the support.

And keep in mind Skinner has been here before and can qualify the hell out of a racecar.

Qualifying and finishing well are two different issues. Granted the car needs to get into the race first and then worry about the finish. Skinner was in cup before and didn't amount to much.
